Darrelle Revis announces retirement

Darrelle Revis announced his retirement from the NFL today on Instagram.

Fantasy Impact

Revis was cut by the Chiefs this offseason, and he's decided to end his 11-year career. In his prime, he was one of the best cover corners of all-time. As such, wide receivers who entered Revis Island were largely avoided by their quarterbacks. While most known for his time with the Jets, Revis also played for the Buccaneers, Patriots, and Chiefs, winning a Super Bowl with New England.

Darrelle Revis cut by Chiefs

NFL Insider Adam Caplan is reporting the Kansas City Chiefs have released CB Darrelle Revis.

Fantasy Impact

Revis, who will turn 33 in July, was released by Kansas City on Thursday. With the impending acquisition of Kendall Fuller from the Redskins, plus, the fact that Revis' base salary of $1.015 million would become fully guaranteed on March 18, the writing was on the wall for the aging cornerback's release at some point this offseason. This could be the end of the line for Revis.

Darrelle Revis dismissed of all charges

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting former New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has been dismissed of all charges stemming from an altercation in Pittsburgh last month.

Fantasy Impact

Revis' charges that include two counts of felony aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy and making terroristic threats during an altercation in Pittsburgh's Southside district in February, were all dismissed by a judge Wednesday at his hearing. The veteran free agent defensive back, who was released by the Jets shortly following the incident, remains on the open market. However, he could be signed sooner rather than later in the wake of his favorable court appearance.

Darrelle Revis being released by Jets

ESPN's Adam Caplan is reporting the New York Jets informed defensive back Darrelle Revis that they are releasing him.

Fantasy Impact

Just weeks after Revis was arrested in Pittsburgh, the Jets are moving on from the troubled and aging cornerback. Revis, 31, is coming off of one of his worst seasons as a pro in 2016 in which he showed signs of diminishing play. Revis could linger on the open market for a while this offseason, especially due to his recent off the field issues.

Darrelle Revis could take pay cut after all

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports New York Jets defensive back Darrelle Revis "all but confirmed he's willing to take a pay cut" to remain with the team in 2017.

Fantasy Impact

Cimini reports that during an exchange with fans on Instagram, Revis said that "he doesn't deserve to be one of the 10 highest-paid cornerbacks" in the NFL, all but hinting he is willing to take a pay cut this offseason. Revis, 31, has showcased declining skills for the better part of the past two seasons, especially in 2016, at the cornerback position. However, if he remains with the Jets, the team could elect to move him to safety, a position change that many great NFL corners made in the past -- most notably Ronnie Lott and Charles Woodson, among others.
