Jeremy Hill rushes for 28 yards against Chiefs

Jeremy Hill rushed six times for 28 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday. The rushes were even between Hill and Mixon with the former rushing for more yards. The Bengals lost to the Chiefs 30-12.

Fantasy Impact

Jeremy Hill is a hard running back to stat out in fantasy. He figures to get most of the goal line work but does not appear to have the three down back ability like Joe Mixon does. Hill would be a good late round flyer especially if head coach Marvin Lewis remains overly loyal to one of his veterans over a rookie.

Jeremy Hill almost a lock to start in 2017?

Cincinnati Bengals beat writer Jim Owczarski believes Jeremy Hill will enter the 2017 season as the team's starting running back. "Unless Jeremy Hill is injured or is absolutely terrible, he’ll start all season," Owczarski said via the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Fantasy Impact

After the Bengals selected Joe Mixon in the second round of April's draft, rumors have suggested that he would ultimately out seat Hill as the team's RB1 as soon as the 2017 regular season opener. Since averaging 5.1 YPC in his 2014 rookie campaign, Hill has regressed, only averaging 3.6 YPC in 2015 and 3.8 YPC in 2016. Despite his heavy touchdown production, he's scored 29 in his three-year career, his starting job is indeed in question. However, Mixon is a rookie and hasn't exactly had the best camp in the early stages, so Owczarski believes Hill is the clear-cut option to open the upcoming season as the starter. However, if he does, I believe Mixon will push him for the role, especially if Hill struggles early. Currently, Mixon is holding a consensus RB16 ADP that could fall as the offseason winds down, while Hill and his RB46 ADP could begin to rise.

Jeremy Hill to retain role in 2017?

Cincinnati Bengals beat writer Geoff Hobson believes running back Jeremy Hill "is still going to be a factor" in 2017.

Fantasy Impact

When the Bengals selected Joe Mixon in the second round of April's draft, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Hill's days as the team's starting running back. However, although Mixon may open the year on top of the depth chart for early down work, not only will Gio Bernard likely maintain his role as the team's primary receiver out of the backfield/ third down back, but Hobson believes Hill will have a role as well. The 24-year-old RB is entering his contract year, which could trigger an uptick in his production, especially in YPC -- he averaged 3.6 and 3.8 YPC respectively in the past two seasons. His bread and butter appears to be on the goal line, however -- he scored 29 career touchdowns since his rookie year in 2014. Cincinnati's backfield could be another that is considered volatile to open the 2017 campaign. If all three RBs are healthy, Mixon and Hill could split the early-down work leaving the remaining snaps for Bernard. From a fantasy football perspective, Mixon should still be the first Bengals' RB targeted in upcoming fantasy drafts with Bernard being snagged in the latter rounds. Hill could very well go undrafted depending on how the remainder of the offseason develops.

Jeremy Hill facing a demotion in 2017

Cincinattit Bengals beat reporter Paul Dehner Jr. believes running back Jeremy Hill will serve as the team's "backup" running back and "goal line specialist" in 2017.

Fantasy Impact

Hill, who has scored 29 touchdowns in his first three years in the league while missing only one game, will likely be demoted to the team's No. 2 running back/ goal line specialist next season. After averaging 5.1 YPC in his rookie year (2014), his average dropped to 3.6 YPC in 2015 and 3.8 YPC in 2016 -- likely contributing to his presumed reduced role. The Bengals will likely address the running back position in the draft or free agency in the upcoming offseason.

Jeremy Hill INACTIVE for Week 17

Jeremy Hill (knee) is inactive for the Bengals' Week 17 game against the Ravens.

Fantasy Impact

Hill was doubtful and expected to miss this game with the injury, but now it's official. Rex Burkhead should get the bulk of the carries, making him an intriguing flex play, albeit in a tough matchup.
