TE - NE
Week 8 Outlook
Per the Patriots official team Twitter, TE Jonnu Smith has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Jets with a shoulder injury.
After exiting the game early in the second quarter with a shoulder injury, the veteran TE was unable to come back and has since been ruled out. With the Patriots up multiple scores in the game, they are likely playing it safe with their TE they gave big money to this offseason. The extent of his injury remains unknown.
Jonnu Smith hauled in both of his targets for 27 yards in the Patriots' Week 5 win against the Texans. He added a carry for five yards.
Smith clearly looks like the second TE option in this Patriots offense, as Hunter Henry led the team in targets, receptions, and yardage this afternoon. Smith is shaping up to be a touchdown-dependent TE2, and has a difficult date with the Cowboys for Week 6.
Jonnu Smith caught 3-of-5 targets for 14 yards and one touchdown in New England's Week 4 loss to Tampa Bay.
Smith was left wide open in the end zone on the first play of the final frame. While the touchdown was nice, Hunter Henry had a score of his own in the second quarter, and recorded an additional catch and 18 more yards. Through four weeks, Smith has 13 receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown, while Henry has 14 receptions for 141 yards and one touchdown. The latter appears to be the slightly better fantasy TE based on the superior yardage, but hopefully managers have more reliable options to roll with.
Jonnu Smith hauled in 1-of-6 targets for four yards in Sunday afternoon's defeat to the Saints.
Despite Smith and Hunter Henry each seeing six targets, Smith recorded just one reception while Henry registered five receptions. It was a disappointing day for Smith, considering Mac Jones threw for 270 yards on 51 attempts. Fantasy managers should expect him to bounce back against the Buccaneers next week on Sunday night.
Jonnu Smith hauled in 4-of-5 targets for 28 yards in Sunday's win against the Jets.
Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry continue to cancel each other out, though Smith did record double the amount of receptions. Due to insufficient volume, he remains a TE2 at best.
