Shields' interception was beautiful, and he ran the route for the receiver before stepping smoothly in front of him for an easy pick. He had a missed tackle in the backfield later in the game, but other than that didn't have much impact on the game.

Shields is the second long-time veteran Packers player to be released in the past 24 hours -- the team also cut James Starks Tuesday. Shields, who played seven seasons in Green Bay, only appeared in one game in 2016. He suffered a concussion in Week 1 and missed the remainder of the year as a result. He'll likely be signed by a new club this offseason if and when he is granted medial clearance to resume football activities.

Shields missed most of the season after a Week 1 concussion landed him on injured reserve, and while cornerback is one of Green Bay's bigger needs heading into the offseason, they seem interested in moving on from Shields and his contract.

Not only did Shields miss most of the season, but he was recently charged with drug and paraphernalia possession stemming from an arrest in October. Shields has a cap hit of $12,125,000 next season, and the Packers can save $9,000,000 of that by releasing him. Shields has given no indication that he is considering retirement after a serious concussion, though that is certainly a possibility at this point.
