Todd Gurley dealing with an 'arthritic component to his knee'

Todd Gurley's trainer says the running back is dealing with an "arthritic component to his knee".

Fantasy Impact

Gurley's knee continues to be the most important fantasy story line of the off-season. His trainer stressed that Gurley hasn't been told that the team wants to limit his workload at all, but the Rams' off-season actions paint a different picture. The All-Pro running back is still expected to participate in on-field drills at training camp, which is a good sign.

Todd Gurley says “he’s not hurt”

Todd Gurley told Maurice Jones-Drew that “he’s not hurt” heading into the 2019 season.

Fantasy Impact

The comments come as a result of much speculation regarding Gurley’s left knee which caused his role to be scaled back significantly at the end of the 2018 regular season and into the postseason. Gurley remains optimistic, but the Rams coach staff seems to have a less rosy outlook, retaining Malcolm Brown and drafting talented rookie Darrell Henderson in the third round of this year’s draft. Gurley was a true fantasy MVP last season, but his stock has taken a significant hit due to lingering health concerns.

Todd Gurley reportedly has arthritis in left knee

Rams running back Todd Gurley has arthritis in his troublesome left knee, according to a report from The Athletic's Jeff Howe on Twitter. This is the same knee that underwent an ACL repair in 2014.

Fantasy Impact

Gurley's usage dwindled down the stretch and into the playoffs last season as he dealt with knee issues. And while the Rams have thus far expressed no concern and initially ruled out surgery, reports of arthritis could make the situation more complicated. We will likely have to wait until the offseason programs, minicamps, and training camp to get more of an idea about Gurley's status, but this report certainly raises questions about Gurley's future workload and longevity in the NFL.

Todd Gurley insists knee is healthy

Todd Gurley told reporters after Super Bowl 53 that his knee is fully healthy.

Fantasy Impact

Gurley received and MRI after Week 15 but it didn't show anything to be concerned about. It's hard to imagine Gurley was fully healthy this post-season. He ran the ball 10 times for 35 yards versus the Patriots, adding one catch for a one-yard loss. It remains to be seen if the Rams will bring back C.J. Anderson in free agency. Gurley's disappearance this winter is an off-season storyline that won't get away quietly.

Todd Gurley won't be a workhorse during Super Bowl

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson will once again split carries during Sunday's Super Bowl.

Fantasy Impact

Rapoport adds the Rams' decision to decrease Gurley's workload comes from "a variety of factors". It sounds as if Gurley isn't injured anymore, but he might not have the conditioning at this point in the year to carry his workloads from the beginning of the season. The Rams will likely need to utilize Gurley as a receiver in tonight's game. The Patriots have struggled covering RBs out of the backfield all season long.
