Marcus Mariota will draw the start for Washington this week after Jayden Daniels' injury last week. Mariota could be their starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Last year, in his seven full games started, Mariota finished as a QB1 three times (QB6, QB9, QB3). In those seven games, Mariota averaged 6.4 rushing attempts and 36.7 rushing yards. He added only one rushing score from those games. Last season, among 38 qualifying passers, Mariota ranked 11th in yards per attempt, 26th in passing success rate, 27th in highly accurate throw rate, and sixth in hero throw rate. I don't expect a big day for Mariota in Week 3 against arguably the best pass defense in the NFL. Seattle has allowed the eighth-fewest EPA per dropback, the seventh-lowest passing success rate, and the second-lowest explosive passing rate. Mariota is a low-end QB2 for Week 3.

With Jayden Daniels dislocating his left elbow on Sunday, Marcus Mariota will quarterback the Commanders indefinitely.

Mariota has never lived up to his draft status after being selected No. 2 overall by the Titans in 2015, but he's become one of the NFL's most capable backup quarterbacks. He's a competent passer and is still an effective runner even though he turns 33 next month.

In his first seven starts in place of Daniels last season, Mariota averaged 17.8 fantasy points per game. In his eighth and final start of the year, Mariota sustained a hand injury and was replaced by Josh Johnson.

Mariota's Week 3 matchup with Seattle is unappealing, but he'll be more playable in subsequent weeks.
