Veteran right hander Brad Penny has decided to retire, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisolm.

Penny's last full season came in 2007, so the retirement has been a long time coming. Penny had a great run, earning a career 26.8 WAR (Fangraphs) over 14 seasons.

Brad Penny allowed five runs on three walks and four hits in only two innings Thursday versus the Houston Astros.

After a strong start to his spring with Toronto, Penny has seen his ERA balloon up to 10.29 after consecutive rough outings. He stand behind Drew Hutchison, Aaron Sanchez and Jesse Chavez on the depth chart in a battle for the fifth rotation spot.

Brad Penny had missed the 2013 season, and hasn't had a great season since 2007, so a minor league stint would be ideal for the White Sox. They need to see what he has left in the tank.

Penny struggled his way to a 2-1 record and a 6.58 ERA in 26 innings pitched for the Marlins in 2014. Regardless of what team he chooses, he will remain miles away from any fantasy relevance.
