Antonio Gates feeling a lack of explosiveness and 'sharp pain' when cutting

After sustaining an MCL injury just a few weeks ago, Antonio Gates says the symptoms are lingering and could be hindering his ability to perform. “You can tell,†said Gates, “I’m having issues with guys at the line, defensive ends. I know it, though. I’m out here playing. I’m fighting. They got guys on me that ... I know it’s an issue. I can feel it. I feel the sharp pains in cuts. I can’t explode. The fatigue in certain parts of my leg. I know it’s all from compensating from the knee." (U-T San Diego)
Fantasy Impact:
This is not the kind of news that fantasy owners wanted to hear. A lingering knee issue on the tail end of a Hall of Fame career could spell disaster if not allowed adequate rest to heal. Gates says he wants to fight through the pain to show his teammates and coaches where his heart is, but his performance on the field will speak the loudest. As long as he is semi-healthy, he is a quality starting fantasy option.
