Chris Johnson may be re-signed by Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told the press that the team is considering re-signing running back Chris Johnson.

Fantasy Impact

If the Cardinals re-sign Chris Johnson in the wake of David Johnson's expected long-term absence stemming from a presumed dislocated wrist, it would be no surprise. Chris Johnson was Arizona's RB1 in 2015, which was David Johnson's rookie year and the same season he emerged as the NFL's next top rusher following an injury to the starter. With an inexperienced Kerwynn Williams and an oft-injured Andre Ellington in line to serve as the Cardinals' top RBs while David Johnson is out, Chris Johnson would likely be brought back for depth.

Chris Johnson re-signs with Cardinals

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting free agent running back Chris Johnson has re-signed with the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Johnson will join the Cardinals for the third consecutive year in 2017. The 31-year-old running back, who only played in four games last season after being placed on IR with a groin injury, will likely assume the role of David Johnson's primary backup. He'll have minimal fantasy value while David Johnson is healthy.

Arizona re-signs RB Chris Johnson to one-year deal

After visiting with the Miami Dolphins, Chris Johnson decided to re-sign with the Arizona Cardinals for another year.

Fantasy Impact

The 30-year-old back played very well last year, amassing 814 yards in 11 games with 4.2 yards per carry. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are running out of options for their backfield. They would love to have an RBBC with Jay Ajayi, but their top three targets (ex-Dolphin Lamar Miller, C.J. Anderson and Chris Johnson) have all decided to play elsewhere.

Chris Johnson joins Arizona backfield

As reported by Jay Glazer on Twitter, former Titans star running back Chris Johnson has agreed to a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals worth $2 million.

Fantasy Impact

This is not much of a surprise after hearing rumblings about Johnson working out for Arizona this past weekend, as well as the fact that their number one and two running backs on the depth chart have been battling injuries recently. This makes sense in terms of an insurance policy for Andre Ellington, but don't put too much stock into drafting Chris Johnson until you see him in a productive role.
