Deneric Prince has been waived by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy Impact
Prince was receiving a lot of hype early on in camp as a possible breakout candidate, so the team waiving him comes as a bit of a surprise. They already have a few good RBs in Isiah Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and it appears that they're confident in that group for this season. Prince seems like a prime practice-squad candidate for the team if he goes unclaimed on waivers in the next couple of days.
Deneric Prince served as the lead running back in Tuesday’s practice with the Chiefs missing Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Fantasy Impact
Prince was already slated to serve as the Chiefs’ kick returner in their first preseason game Sunday. The reps Prince is seeing in camp should help his case to make the 53-man roster out of training camp. Fantasy managers should expect him to also see reps at running back Sunday against New Orleans.
According to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, RB Deneric Prince saw first-team reps Sunday with RB Isiah Pacheco sidelined by injury.
Fantasy Impact
Prince went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft coming out of Tulsa. It’s unclear if this a sign going forward as the Chiefs do have RB Jerick McKinnon who is expected to be the team’s RB2. This could be a bad sign for RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, though, as he appears to be falling further out of favor. Prince likely won’t hold any value outside of deep dynasty formats, but it’s a name to remember if Pacheco’s injury persists.
Deneric Prince showed off his ability to reach second gear when catching passes during the Chiefs second day of minicamp. He’s making an impression on the team's current receiving back, Jerick McKinnon, and coaches alike.
Fantasy Impact
The undrafted free agent out of Tulsa was used sparingly as a receiver in college. His season-high in receptions during college was nine. Though he has a long road ahead to achieve fantasy relevance, there is a world where Prince is used as a receiver out of the backfield. McKinnon is aging and Clyde Edwards-Helaire hasn’t lived up to his first-round draft capital. It’s unlikely Prince beats out both of them, however, but he’s worth a stash in dynasty leagues.
