Fantasy Basketball Deep Sleepers: Week 7
John Henson

Is John Henson finally breaking out in Milwaukee?

We’re back again for our third installment of Fantasy Basketball deep sleepers. This is the article where we dive deep into the depths of the waiver wire to find players owned in less than 25% of leagues that can help you win your week in even the deepest leagues. Let’s get started.

Sergio Rodriguez (PG – PHI) 20.1% Ownership
Week 7 Schedule, three games- Monday @ Memphis Wednesday @ New Orleans, Saturday @ Detroit

After spending four seasons in the NBA with the Portland Trailblazers, New York Knicks, and Sacramento Kings, Rodriguez left the NBA to play in Europe for Real Madrid. After winning numerous accolades overseas, Rodriguez returned to the NBA for the first time since 2010 this season to play for the Sixers. His time in Europe undoubtedly helped too because the former NBA journeyman is experiencing career highs in minutes (27.4), points (8.5), assists (6.9), rebounds (3.2), steals (1.0) three-pointers (1.3), and free-throw % (.875) per game. Rodriguez has also started 20 of his 21 games this season.  If you are in a deep points league and are looking for a PG, Rodriguez could be your guy.

John Henson (C – MIL) 24.3% Ownership
Week 7 Schedule, four games- Tuesday VS Portland, Thursday VS Atlanta, Friday @ Washington, Sunday @ Toronto

I would err on the side of caution here because in life there are only three guarantees–death, taxes, and inconsistency in a rotation run by Jason Kidd. With that said, Henson has been on fire the last week averaging 11.8 points, 7.3 boards, and 3.0 blocks in 24.8 minutes per game. Henson has also started 10 of his 17 games played this season and looks to be the preferred option over Bucks’ big 2015 free agent signing Greg Monroe. Now I said it before, and I’ll say it again, Kidd can be a little bit unpredictable with his rotations. While Henson is hot now and has been productive throughout his career when given an opportunity, Kidd could banish him to the bench at any time and not even provide a legitimate reason for it.

Patrick Beverley (PG – HOU) 10.7% Ownership
Week 7 Schedule, four games- Tuesday VS LA Lakers, Thursday @ Oklahoma City, Friday VS Dallas, Sunday VS Brooklyn

After missing the first 11 games of the season, Beverley has now started the last 10 games for the Houston Rockets. And while it’s only been 10 games, Beverley has been having a pretty decent season in Mike D’antoni’s up-tempo offense averaging career-highs in rebounds (4.5), assists (3.9), and blocks (0.7) as well as 7.2 points and 1.3 steals in 28.8 minutes per game. While he isn’t the best option in category leagues, he does provide enough of a statistical balance to make him valuable in points leagues.

The Memphis Grizzlies
Week 7 Schedule, three games- Monday VS Philadelphia, Wednesday VS Portland, Friday VS Golden State

That’s right, the red-hot Memphis Grizzlies are currently in sixth place in the Western Conference after winning their last three games. The Grizzlies have been a wasteland of injuries over the past few weeks losing Mike Conley (six weeks), Vince Carter, Braden Wright, James Ennis, and Chandler Parsons. However, for every problem there is an opportunity, and that opportunity has come in the form of three young players that have stepped up in the absence of these veterans.

JaMychal Green (PF) 27.6% Ownership
If you can only pick one of these three players, I would select Green. The second-year pro from Alabama has started all 22 games this season for the Grizzlies, and over the last week has averaged a double-double with 11.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 blocks per games.

Andrew Harrison (PG) 19.1% Ownership
Harrison has started the last seven games for Conley who should be out for the next six weeks. The former Kentucky Wildcat hasn’t been spectacular, but he’s been getting a ton of volume averaging 9.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in 31.1 minutes per games.

Troy Daniels (SG) 11.5% Ownership
Daniels has been on fire the last four games averaging 24.5 points and five three-pointers a game. During that span, only Klay Thompson has averaged more three-pointers a game.  He should be added in all category leagues if you are looking for points or threes and is a strong pick up in points leagues.

Well, that’s it for this week. Tune in next week as we continue to scour the depths of the waiver wire to find players owned in less than 25% of leagues who can help you win your week, and could be long-term sleepers that help you win your leagues.
