Navigating the tight DraftKings pitching prices will be the key to success on Tuesday’s 14-game MLB slate. There are five pitchers with a salary over $10,000 and we will want to get at least one of them, so finding some salary savings with our second pitcher and hitters will be a must. We may also need to dodge the raindrops in a few cities so be sure to check in with your favorite meteorologist to get the latest before finalizing your DFS lineup.
As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time. Pitchers
Luis Severino (NYY): $13,100 @ PHI
Unfortunately, I have expensive taste as out of all the $10,000-plus pitchers on the slate the one that is the most expensive is the one I like best, go figure. Luis Severino has been both dominant and consistent this season offering a high floor and ceiling. He will travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday getting the benefit of no DH while facing a Phillies offense that has the second-highest strikeout rate (26.9%) over the last 30 days. Severino dominates hitters the first time through the order with a 36.8% strikeout rate and this will be the first time for the Phillies hitters to face Severino.

Freddy Peralta (MIL): $7,900 vs. KC
While Severino has some safety and upside, whoever you pair him with will likely have risk, so you might as well go for a risky option that at least has some upside. The Brewers rookie Freddy Peralta will make his home debut on Tuesday against the Royals who also will be minus the DH traveling to the NL park. Over the last 30 days, the Royals have a league-worst wOBA (.271) and wRC+ (68) against right-handed pitching. Peralta and the Brewers are big Vegas favorites and Peralta has shown some elite strikeout potential in his first three starts with a 41.0% strikeout rate.

Hitters
Logan Morrison (MIN – 1B): $3,300 @ CHW
Sometimes BvP numbers are just hard to ignore. That is the case for Logan Morrison against Reynaldo Lopez. Sure, the sample size is very small but when a guy goes 5-for-6 with a double and two homers it sure seems like there must be something there. If you are anti-BvP, or if the rains come to Chicago, then look to pivot to Justin Bour for just $100 more. Bour homered on Monday and has a .421 wOBA and .400 ISO at home against righties this season.
Yoan Moncada (CHW – 2B): $3,900 vs. MIN
Moncada is coming off a huge six-RBI game on Sunday that included a double and a home run. He continually feels underpriced anytime he faces a right-handed start as he does on Tuesday night. This season, Moncada has posted a .342 wOBA and .228 ISO at home against righties. He’ll square off against Twins right-hander Lance Lynn who has allowed a .394 wOBA on the road to lefties. Watch the weather on the south side of Chicago in this one and be ready to pivot to Josh Harrison, who is a perfect 3-for-3 off Steven Matz in his career, if the raindrops fall in Chicago.
Jake Lamb (ARI – 3B): $4,000 @ MIA
With a lot of money spent on pitching, we’ll need to find numerous value hitting options to fill out our DFS lineup. Jake Lamb offers some value at 3B and has been hitting well on the Diamondbacks current road trip with a five-game hitting streak that included a homer on Monday night against the Marlins. The Marlins will bring righty Elieser Hernandez to the mound who already faced the Diamondbacks earlier this season and served up a long ball to Lamb in two at-bats. For the season, lefties have a .428 wOBA and 2.16 HR/9 against Hernandez.
Travis Jankowski (SD – OF): $3,800 @ TEX
You will likely need to find an outfielder or two in this price range to make a lineup work with Severino in it. Travis Jankowski, Brett Gardner, Denard Span and Joey Gallo are all viable options in this range. Jankowski is my favorite of the bunch as long as he plays and settles into the leadoff on Tuesday against Rangers righty Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Jankowski has a .336 wOBA against righties, while Bibens-Dirkx allows a lot of contact with a low 14.3% strikeout rate and a 43.3% hard-hit rate to lefties this season.
Kike Hernandez (LAD – SS/OF): $3,500 vs. CHC
Hernandez comes into play anytime the Dodgers are facing a lefty. His salary is perpetually reasonable and he offers multi-position flexibility. He has a .357 wOBA and .256 ISO against left-handed pitching this season while generating even higher numbers at home where he will be on Tuesday night. Hernandez has also had success against lefty Jon Lester during his career batting .312 with a triple and two homers in 16 career at-bats.
