Early Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 13 (Fantasy Football)

The bulk of Week 12 action is in the books and already we have some early waiver wire pickups for fantasy owners to check out to get a jump on the competition for Week 13. Injuries and big games have made some players far more valuable after this week.

The waiver pickups are far less exciting than they were last week but that’s just how it goes some weeks. Let’s take a look at early suggestions for your waiver wire, including the player’s Yahoo! ownership and upcoming schedule. Players listed here typically have under 30% ownership. Enjoy!

Running Backs

Nyheim Hines (RB – IND): 22% owned
Marlon Mack will try to clear the concussion protocol after he took a big hit in Week 12’s game against the Dolphins. If he misses any time, Hines would be the preferred fantasy pickup to Jordan Wilkins. Hines has shown his big-play ability already this season in limited action and he is a good receiver and runner in space. Playing on a surging Colts offense, he needs to be added.
Next three weeks: @JAX, @HOU, DAL

Frank Gore (RB – MIA): 25% owned
Kenyan Drake injured his shoulder in Week 12 against the Colts and his status for Week 13 is yet unknown. Gore already holds a sizeable advantage over Drake in carries this season (131 – 89), so if Drake misses any time, the volume for Gore would presumably spike. He’s been efficient with his opportunities this season and he makes for a great add heading into the home stretch of the fantasy season.
Next three weeks: BUF, NE, @MIN

Carlos Hyde (RB – JAC): 37% owned
Leonard Fournette channeled his inner-Mike Tyson and was ejected in Week 12’s loss to the Bills after throwing punches in a third quarter fight. Although T.J. Yeldon is easily the better pass-catcher of he and Carlos Hyde, it should be Hyde who handles early-down work should Fournette be disciplined for any future games. The Jags have been leaning heavily on Fournette the last two games because the passing game is abysmal (231 yards over the last two games). Hyde should be rostered.
Next three weeks: IND, @TEN, WAS

LeGarrette Blount (RB – DET): 14% owned
Blount filled in nicely for an injured Kerryon Johnson on Thanksgiving, scoring two rushing TDs and showing off his bruising abilities, carrying defenders into the endzone on one of his scores. He’s certainly not a sexy pickup but you can’t argue with results. Johnson may not be back next week so Blount is worth an add.
Next three weeks: LAR, @ARI, @BUF

Other RBs to consider: Spencer Ware (RB -KC): 8% owned, Malcolm Brown (RB – LAR): 8% owned

Wide Receivers

Adam Humphries (WR – TB): 30% owned
Humphries went 6-54-1 in the Bucs’ win over the Niners this week. He now has at least 76 yards or a score in four of his last five and four TDs in his last four games overall. He’s caught two TDs from Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston, so the revolving door at the QB spot doesn’t impact his value. He’s a solid add.
Next three weeks: CAR, NO, @BAL

Dante Pettis (WR – SF): 1% owned
Pettis had a great showing against the Bucs in an otherwise awful team performance by the 49ers. His 4-77-1 gave him a season-high in yardage. He now has 13 targets in his last two games and with Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin uncertain to play in Week 13, Pettis could be in for another heavy workload against the Seahawks.
Next three weeks: @SEA, DEN, SEA

Other WRs to consider: Curtis Samuel (WR – CAR): 9% owned, Jermaine Kearse (WR – NYJ): 2% owned, Ryan Switzer (WR – PIT): 0% owned

Quarterbacks

Josh Allen (QB – BUF): 2% owned
Allen impressed in a 24-21 win over the Jags this week. He completed less than 50% of his passes for only 160 yards but he still threw for a score. The former Wyoming Cowboy made the folks back in Laramie proud as he ripped off 13-99-1 on the ground showcasing his dynamic abilities. Allen is still far from polished but he’s a great add for fantasy purposes, and his rest of season schedule presents matchups that are very much exploitable.
Next three weeks: @MIA, NYJ, DET

Other QBs to consider: Case Keenum (QB – DEN): 16% owned, Ryan Tannehill (QB – MIA): 6% owned

Tight Ends

The TE position is still a disaster, so unfortunately, these are the best options out there this week.

Dan Arnold (WR/TE – NO): 0%
He finished with 4-45-1 on six targets in the Saints dominating win over the Falcons in Week 12. He’s a dual-eligible TE/WR in Yahoo! leagues, so he’s a sneaky good add if he continues to build a rapport with Drew Brees.
Next three weeks: @DAL, @TB, @CAR

Other TEs to consider: Chris Herndon (TE – NYJ): 8% owned, Mark Andrews (TE – BAL): 2% owned, Matt LaCosse (TE – DEN): 0% owned

D/STs

New Orleans Saints: 41% owned

Buffalo Bills: 38% owned

Tennessee Titans: 21% owned
