FanDuel Projected Ownership: Week 2 (2019)

Week 1 is in the books, and now we’re onto Week 2. The opening week of an NFL season is almost impossible to predict, and I hope that you weren’t one of the 21.5% of FanDuel players projected to buy Kerryon Johnson. We all make mistakes, but I did say that the Lions didn’t trust him outside of a committee in last week’s article. Oh well. Let’s take a look at what our projected ownership tool is saying about this week.

Quarterback

Player Matchup Salary Ownership
Patrick Mahomes at OAK $9,000 49.3%
Lamar Jackson vs. ARI $8,200 18.4%
Tom Brady at MIA $7,800 7.7%
Josh Allen at NYG $7,500 5.3%
Jared Goff vs. NO $7,600 3.9%

Patrick Mahomes should be the consensus QB1 come Sunday, but his massive $9,000 price tag will give contrarian players some extra salary cap to use. That said, Mahomes deserves his unquestioned QB1 slot. Paul Ghigliere’s Week 2 quarterback primer offers some insight into why that’s the case. Sure, Mahomes will be playing without Tyreek Hill. That didn’t even matter last week, as the Chiefs still throttled the Jaguars and Mahomes threw three touchdowns. Lamar Jackson is projected to be the second-most popular option after he dismantled the Dolphins last week. I’d pump the brakes a little bit on Jackson just because I’m not sure how much of his success was due to the Dolphins’ poor defensive play. That said, the Cardinals’ defense didn’t look too great last weekend either. Next up are Josh Allen and Tom Brady. Allen will be playing in what should be a close game against the Giants, and his huge arm and scrambling ability are fantasy assets. Meanwhile, Brady has a should-be blowout on his schedule, but I wouldn’t count out ex-Patriot Brian Flores having some tricks up his sleeve. Even if he doesn’t, there’s still a chance that Brady won’t need to throw much to beat a bad Dolphins team. Goff finishes up our list of quarterbacks, and the Rams’ trio of talented wideouts make him an interesting option for contrarians.
