Week 6 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2020 Fantasy Football)

Week 6 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2020 Fantasy Football)

With Week 4 coming to an exciting conclusion with the unexpected doubleheader, fantasy football managers have quickly set their sights on improving their rosters ahead of Week 6. With waivers set to run tonight in most leagues, we will jump right into some of the top waiver wire adds for those of you are lucky enough to play in IDP leagues. You truly don’t know what you are missing until you try it. Also, be sure to check if last week’s top adds are still available in your league. Let’s dig in.

Note: Rostered percentages provided via Yahoo! leagues

Linebacker

Foyesade Oluokun (LB – ATL): 2% rostered on Yahoo!
Oluokun racked up an insane 12 solo tackles, two assists, and one tackle for loss in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers. A downhill strong side backer who stays in on nickel packages, Oluokun has worked his way into the LB2 conversation. He is an LB2 with LB1 upside for a plus matchup against a Vikings offense surrendering the ninth most fantasy points to the linebacker position and needs to be added where available. Byes and injuries are starting to pile up, so those of you in the 98 percent of the leagues that he is still available in should look to be aggressive in your bids.

Willie Gay Jr. (LB – KC): 0% rostered on Yahoo!
Willie Gay Jr. saw a season-high 47 percent of the snaps in Week 5, racking up five solos, one assist, one sack, and one tackle for loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. His role on defense continues to expand, and he has already passed Ben Niemann on the depth chart. It should only be a matter of time before he passes Damien Wilson and is playing 65+ percent of the snaps alongside Anthony Hitchens. Wilson has been effective thus far this season and figures to stay in the rotation for 2020 barring a steep drop off in play. A hard-hitting and exciting linebacker, Gay should enter the LB2 conversation before the season is over. Add him where available as a bye week filler and potential second-half difference-maker.

Eric Wilson (LB – MIN): 5% rostered on Yahoo!
Eric Wilson has played 100 percent of the snaps for three straight weeks and needs to be taken seriously in IDP leagues. He is still more of an LB3 than an LB2, but he could sport LB2 upside when he has plus matchups on tap during the byes. He had a strong Week 5 that saw him record four solo tackles, two assists, two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and one pass defended in an LB1 performance. He will be an LB2 option in Week 6 in a plus matchup against the Atlanta Falcons offense surrendering the 15th most fantasy points to the linebacker position.

Defensive Back

Jeremy Chinn (S/LB – CAR): 16% rostered on Yahoo!
Chinn was excellent once again in Week 5, racking up six solo tackles, three assists, and one pass defended in the DB1 performance. He continues to be lined up all over the field, spending half of his time as a free safety or a box safety, and the other half of his time at slot corner (with a few snaps out wide). He is finally reaching the rostered numbers to exclude him from this column, but as long as he remains under the 18 percent mark, I will keep beating the drum. Add him wherever available as a priority, until we get him over the 30 percent mark.

Jalen Mills (S – PHI): 1% rostered on Yahoo!
With the bye week crunch now upon us, rostering bye week filler options one week ahead of time is suggested if your roster space allows for it. If you are looking for a DB3 with DB2 upside, you may want to take a look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Mills. Mills recorded six solo tackles and two assists in Week 5, making it four of five weeks with four or more solo tackles or a sack. He has a lower floor than one would like, but that is why he is available in 99 percent of leagues despite having a six solo tackle night, and a 1.5 sack night on his 2020 resume. Keep him rostered as a swing S or DB for the byes.

Adrian Colbert (S – NYG): 0% rostered on Yahoo!
Adrian Colbert is worth a look for IDP players playing in ocean deep leagues with deep rosters and benches. He played 75 percent of the snaps in Week 4 and 5 and may have one more week of fantasy relevance left in him. Jabril Peppers returned in Week 5 but played just 35 percent of the snaps. Colbert is currently third on the safety depth chart behind both Peppers and Logan Ryan, so he should see his snaps reduced in Week 6. However, it is clear that head coach Joe Judge has an affinity for Colbert, so it is possible that he has earned himself a rotational role. He has played well enough to have a part-time role on defense and is worth a look for those playing in leagues where every other name listed above is already rostered.

Defensive Line

Montez Sweat (DE – WAS): 14% rostered on Yahoo!
Montez Sweat was back up over the 65 percent snap mark in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams. He saw just 47 percent of the snaps in the blowout loss to the Ravens, and this is what we expected to see at a minimum with Matt Ioannidis out for the season. Sweat was busy against Los Angeles, accumulating four solo tackles, four assists, one sack, one forced fumble, and one QB hit in the DL1 overall level performance. Sweat reminded all of us why he deserves to be rostered in all competitive leagues. While I do not watch rostered percentages every week, it is readily apparent that Sweat’s numbers have taken a tumble, but a drop worthy Week 4 against the Ravens may have caused many knee jerk IDP managers to cut the potential elite DL2 level pass rusher. Punish your rivals for being so shortsighted and add Sweat wherever possible.

Stephon Tuitt (DE – PIT): 2% rostered on Yahoo!
Stephon Tuitt saw his rostered percentage numbers take a nosedive following the forced bye week in Week 4, but it seems that many fantasy managers did not remember, or care to add him back to their rosters. Tuitt is up to 3.5 sacks on the season and has a sack in three of his four contests this year. He has played over 70 percent of the snaps each week and is a strong matchup based DL2/DE2 option. Tuitt recorded two solos, three assists, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and three QB hits against the Eagles in the DL1 level performance. For those looking for just a one-week dalliance, he has the Cleveland Browns on tap for Week 6. The Browns should keep him extremely busy against the run, and Tuitt should see some pass-rushing snaps against Jedrick Wills, a rookie who while extremely talented, will not be able to keep up with Tuitt, Cameron Heyward, and T.J. Watt all afternoon. Add Tuitt wherever possible as a DL3 with DL2 upside.

Emmanuel Ogbah (DE – MIA): 1% rostered on Yahoo!
Emmanuel Ogbah is more of a deep league special, but he is still someone that deserves your attention in competitive leagues. The type of bye week filler who may still be floating on some wires, Ogbah is now up to three sacks on the season. He has had at least 0.5 sacks in four straight weeks and needs to be taken seriously in Miami’s defense. He is on pace to smash his career-high of 5.5 sacks which he tied last year. Ogbah already has as many QB hurries (four) as he had all of last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 76 percent of the snaps he has averaged this season, ties his career-high. This is not the Ogbah you’ve come to know over the last several seasons, this new version should get up to at least seven sacks on the season, and will continue to be a pressure creating disruptor for the Dolphins. Add him as a bye week filler with DL3 upside. The Dolphins get the lowly Jets in what should serve as another teeing off spot for Ogbah. He can be counted on as a potential DL2 option due to the byes in a plus matchup against a disastrous Jets offense.
