Week 5 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2021 Fantasy Football)

Week 5 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2021 Fantasy Football)

Week 4 is in the books, and IDP managers are furiously scouring the waiver wire for impact additions. The first few weeks of the season always provides some new and some old options to consider, some of which will impact IDP starters for the rest of the season. The names below all seem to qualify and may very well be available in your leagues. Let’s take a look at some of the names that are worth some of your free agent budget.

Jamin Davis (LB – WAS): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Jamin Davis is set to be forced into a larger role for Washington following the torn pec suffered by veteran linebacker Jon Bostic. Davis had been suffering from inconsistent snaps all season, leading to spotty production. He came to life in Week 3 but had another down week in Week 4 with just two solo tackles. After seeing just 48 percent of the snaps this season, Davis could jump to 70 or higher with the depth chart loosening up. This is a speculative add that shouldn’t cost too much of your budget but is a move that could pay serious dividends in short order. Davis has LB1 tools and could produce as an LB2 going forward. Add Davis wherever possible.

Quincy Williams (LB – NYJ): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Quincy Williams had his breakout game for the New York Jets. He impressed in Week 3 with six solos, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble, but really came to life in Week 4, tallying 10 solos, two assists, one sack, two tackles for loss, and a pass defended. Quinnen Williams‘ older brother has teased us with talent and opportunity before but was unable to make good on his potential in Jacksonville. With the Jets no longer a sad-sack franchise like the Jags, Williams appears set to boast LB2/LB3 level value the rest of the way. He has played over 92 percent of the snaps every week and should continue to produce for fantasy managers when called upon. Currently, the LB16 overall, he will be locked in as an LB2 option during the byes and should be added immediately with an easy matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on deck.

Alec Ogletree (LB – CHI): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Veteran linebacker Alec Ogletree was one of the stars of Bears camp but had been unable to parlay his strong showing to production on game day. However, in Week 4, he finally got it going with 10 solos, two assists, and a pass defended. Ogletree will be hard to trust until he shows more consistency, but with byes rapidly approaching, Ogletree should be added to rosters. He has multiple LB2 upside matchups during the bye weeks and could solidify himself in that conversation with a few more strong showings. Add the vet where needed as bench depth, with an eye on starting him during the bye weeks.

Eric Wilson (LB – PHI): 7% rostered on Yahoo
Eric Wilson showed up again in Week 4, recording six solos, four assists, one interception, and one pass defended. There is no excuse for someone who had so much success last season to still be available in so many leagues, but here we are. Wilson has been an LB2 through four weeks of action and needs to be rostered in all competitive leagues, especially with the byes around the corner.

Robert Quinn (DE/LB – CHI): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Robert Quinn is enjoying a Renaissance season. Up to 4.5 sacks on the season, Quinn needs to be added on all providers that allow him to slot in at DL/DE. He should still be added on providers where he only qualifies as an LB, but with different expectations. He is more of a sack-dependent LB3 who can morph into an LB2 option with a great matchup as a linebacker only. But as a DL, he has forced his way back into the DL2/DE2 conversation. He went off in Week 4, tallying five solos, one sack, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. Add Quinn where needed.

Kyle Dugger (S/LB – NE): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Dugger thrilled in Week 1. He had a great stat line, but it was logging the bulk of his snaps at linebacker that had us excited. He surprisingly disappointed in Week 2 and Week 3 but put himself back on the map with a strong Week 4 that saw him record six solos, one assist, and one tackle for loss. Dugger has a tackle for loss in every game this season and just needs to show some consistency to make good on his S1/DB1 upside. He is a borderline LB2 on providers where he qualifies for both spots but is a much better option at DB/S. Dugger is too exciting a talent with too good of a role (and positional labeling) to be left on the wire. Add the Patriots defender where possible.

Caden Sterns (S – DEN): 0% rostered on Yahoo
This is the one, and only time we will ever suggest an ocean deep league special or watch list only player in this column. Caden Sterns was a revelation in Week 4. As a fifth round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Sterns has not seen much playing time this season. He has maxed out at 27 percent of the snaps but has been showing flashes. His Week 3 interception put him on the radar as a playmaker, but unfortunately, he actually saw his snaps decreased against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4, playing just seven snaps. But what a seven snaps they were. Sterns exploded for three solos, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and one pass defended in the great matchup. Yes, in just seven snaps. Sterns is someone to target in the deepest of leagues, but for those in shallower leagues, Sterns is someone to add to your watch list and monitor closely. We cannot bank on him continuing to produce with such a limited role. He is buried behind Justin Simmons at safety but could push Kareem Jackson for snaps if he continues to impress. Dynasty leaguers need to add the versatile safety immediately.

Quandre Diggs (S – SEA): 6% rostered on Yahoo
Quandre Diggs continues to produce and needs to be taken seriously. Yes, we have all seen him string together a few strong weeks before, but this time feels different for the former corner. The Seahawks need his tackling, and that has resulted in three DB2 level performances in four weeks. He was strong again in Week 4, racking up five solos, two assists, one interception, and two passes defended. Diggs is the DB13/S7 on the season and needs to be added everywhere. He has been one of the more consistent producers at the position and is firmly in the weekly DB2 conversation going forward.

Taylor Rapp (S – LAR): 12% rostered on Yahoo
Rapp continues to produce but is only rostered in 12 percent of Yahoo leagues. He had six solos and six assists in Week 4, pushing him to the DB20 on the season. He is an elite safety option in IDP formats and should be rostered in all competitive leagues. Rapp is a name every IDP manager should know, so there is no excuse for him to be lying around on the wire in so many leagues. Rectify that immediately.

Daniel Sorensen (S – KC): 9% rostered on Yahoo
No one wants to buy into Sorensen’s scorching hot play. I get it. However, Sorensen has been producing since last season and is currently the S2/DB5 overall. He is coming off a nine solo performance and demands to be taken seriously. His tremendous play has kept former second round pick, Juan Thornhill in a backup role for the Chiefs, and there is very little Thornhill can do about it. Sorensen needs to be rostered universally as a DB1 option.

Everson Griffen (DE – MIN): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Griffen is riding a two game sack streak and is once again causing havoc across from Danielle Hunter. He tallied three solos, one sack, and one tackle for loss in Week 4 and looks to be rounding back into his Pro Bowl form. Griffen has recorded eight or more sacks in four of his last five seasons with the Vikings and looks to be pushing his way into that range again, especially with an extra game to be played. He is still more of a matchup-based DL2/DE2 option, for now, but can lock himself in as a DL2 option with another strong performance or two. You know the name, and you know the game, stop sleeping on Everson Griffen. Add him where available.

Randy Gregory (DE – DAL): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Gregory recorded his first two sacks of the season in Week 4. He looks to be rounding back into his 2018 form as he already has eight pressures and four quarterback hurries. To put that in perspective, he had just 16 pressures in 2020 and had just three hurries. Gregory tallied two solos, one assist, two sacks, and two tackles for loss against the Panthers last week and has a great matchup on tap against the New York Giants in Week 5. At the very least, Gregory is a DL2 option during the byes. However, if he has earned himself more snaps and a chance at more consistent production, we could be looking at a career year for the much-maligned Cowboys defensive end. Add Gregory where needed.

Emmanuel Ogbah (DE – MIA): 3% rostered on Yahoo
Ogbah has been a bit of a disappointment to start the season, but after a two solo, two asisst, one sack, and one tackle for loss in Week 4, he is now up to 1.5 sacks on the season. While 1.5 is nothing to get excited about, his first full sack suggests that he might be turning a corner. Ogbah was an elite DL2/DE2 option in 2020, recording nine sacks, six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five passes defended in the best season of his career. However, his slow start led him to be dropped by fantasy managers in all but the most competitive IDP leagues. That was a mistake. He has been seeing fewer snaps than last season but has still been creating havoc. Ogbah has been getting to the quarterback often but just has not been getting sacks. He already has seven QB knockdowns compared to just 11 last season. Add Ogbah wherever possible.

Darrell Taylor (DE – SEA): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Taylor continues to produce for the Seahawks and now has a sack in three of his four games this season. He recorded two solos, one sack, and one tackle for loss in Week 4 and has been producing despite seeing just 38 percent of the snaps. Raw with saliva-inducing tools was the book on him as a prospect, but no one expected him to be this good, this soon. Seattle is going to be forced to give him more snaps sooner rather than later, so make the add now while other fantasy managers stay hung up on his limited snap counts. He may cement his place in the DE2 conversation during the byes and is already there based on his production. Add Taylor as a bye week filler who can morph into your DE2 with a few more strong performances.
