NFL Preseason Week 3 DFS Lineup Advice: Thursday (8/25)

It’s the final week of the preseason before the games mean something. Some teams take this as a dress rehearsal, so starters might see more time than usual. Still, the backups should see most of the game. We’ll look at deep dives and one more significant quarterback competition to make today’s lineup.

Jordan Love (QB – GB)

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t taken a snap In preseason since 2018, and I don’t think that’s changing tonight. Jordan Love has been getting a ton of playing time in the first two games, and he should get it again tonight. He’s a great play based on the potential volume.

Drew Lock (QB – SEA)/Geno Smith (QB – SEA)

As previously mentioned, we’re trying to pick quarterbacks based on volume. Drew Lock and Deno Smith should split the entire game as they’re battling for that starting role. Neither has played better than the other, and Carroll believes he has two “true No. 1s, ” I don’t think neither will be that type of player for the regular season, but in the preseason, they’re great to roll with.

Tyler Goodson (RB – GB)

The UDFA out of Iowa has been getting heavy usage in the first two preseason games, with 22 carries for 79 yards and three catches for 34. We shouldn’t expect Aaron Jones or AJ Dillon to see the field tonight, meaning Tyler Goodson will be in line for another night of double-digit touches.

Nico Collins (WR – HOU)

Nico Collins will be the WR2 for the Texans this season. He had a couple of solid performances last season, and he was getting more opportunities as the season went on. It’s paid off for him as he’ll be the next option behind Brandin Cooks. We haven’t seen Cooks in the first two games, and he may sit out again, so Davis Mills will utilize Collins as the top receiver.

Justin Watson (WR – KC)

Justin Watson has been getting heavy usage in the previous two preseason games and has led Kansas City in receiving yards in both games. Even with the first unit playing more extensively in this game, Watson should get a lot of time on the field as he should be in line to make the 53-man roster.

Jody Fortson (TE – KC)

It’s strange to tell you to play a Chiefs tight end not named Travis Kelce, but that’s how it rolls in the preseason. Jody Fortson is currently listed fourth on the depth chart. Yet, TE3 Noah Gray has not performed particularly well in the first two games, and Fortson tied a couple of Chiefs receivers with five targets last week. Expect very little Kelce tonight, and TE2 Blake Bell is listed as doubtful. So I’ll take Fortson over Gray.
