Fantasy Baseball Injury Stash Rankings: Corey Seager, Jose Altuve, Brandon Woodruff

Welcome back to the weekly fantasy baseball injury stash rankings!

I’ve noticed some comments from those who have issues that the players mentioned here are not available in any fantasy baseball leagues. That is not the point. We’re here to deliver the order in which players that currently reside on the injury list should be prioritized. Whether it be a shallow league or a 12-team deep league, management of the IL spots is imperative.

Let’s get into it and see who should stay or go from those IL spots!

Fantasy Baseball Injury Stash Rankings

Let’s dive in and take a look at the top 10 players worth stashing across all positions. Then, we’ll get into prioritized lists for both pitchers and hitters at this point in the season.

Top 10 Players to Stash Right Now

Corey Seager (SS – TEX)
Jose Altuve (2B – HOU)
Brandon Woodruff (SP – MIL)
J.D. Martinez (DH – LAD)
Oneil Cruz (SS – PIT)
Giancarlo Stanton (OF – NYY)
Luis Severino (SP – NYY)
Triston McKenzie (SP – CLE)
Jacob deGrom (SP – TEX)
Tyler Glasnow (SP – TB)

I mean, it’s been a bit of a gong show on the injured list of late. Recent reports state that deGrom is 2-3 weeks away from throwing while Glasnow left a Wednesday night rehab start in the second inning when he was scheduled to pitch four. Those two arms are elite when healthy but both cannot seem to avoid the injury bug, which leaves fantasy managers guessing when they will be available.

We have a newcomer in J.D. Martinez who won’t require an IL spot come Friday. While he’s only available at DH, it may be wise to position your roster accordingly as he is once again raking to the tune of an .840 OPS alongside four homers, nine doubles, and even a pair of triples in just 23 games.

As for Severino, he begins his rehab assignment Friday and will be a welcomed addition to a battered and bruised Yankees pitching staff upon his return.

Top 8 Pitchers to Stash Right Now

Brandon Woodruff (SP – MIL)
Luis Severino (SP – NYY)
Triston McKenzie (SP – CLE)
Jacob deGrom (SP – TEX)
Tyler Glasnow (SP – TB)
Carlos Rodon (SP – NYY)
Max Fried (SP – ATL)
Liam Hendriks (RP – CWS)

The best news of the week is that Liam Hendriks is cancer-free and should be available to the White Sox sooner than later. Now, the Sox are struggling in a bad way which will limit Hendriks’ save opportunities but if you’re in need of a closer in head-to-head category leagues, he’s your guy. After all, the White Sox bullpen sits 29th with a 6.21 ERA on the season. They need this guy in a big way.

Otherwise, it’s a wait-and-see approach with many of these names. I touched on a few above but one new piece of news comes in regard to Braves left-hander Max Fried. A dangerous forearm issue doesn’t appear to require Tommy John surgery but it seems he will miss at least two months at this point. He’s a clear-cut stash as the Braves’ best starting pitcher but this one will require some patience on behalf of fantasy managers.

For those who are stashing Guardians righty, Triston McKenzie, you are in a solid spot. McKenzie’s return isn’t imminent but he is throwing bullpens and appears to be in line for a minor-league rehab assignment sooner than later.

Top 8 Hitters to Stash Right Now

Corey Seager (SS – TEX)
Jose Altuve (2B – HOU)
J.D. Martinez (DH – LAD)
Oneil Cruz (SS – PIT)
Giancarlo Stanton (OF – NYY)
Tyler O’Neill (OF – STL)
Eloy Jimenez (OF – CWS)
Yoan Moncada (3B – CWS)

I had Jared Walsh in this section last week but he’s already on a rehab assignment so let’s focus on the longer term here.

Fantasy managers are furious with Eloy Jimenez who has been unable to deliver so far this season. He hasn’t been terrible but with a .165 isolated power and a .309 xwOBA, there is plenty left to be desired from the 26-year-old.

Tyler O’Neill is a new addition here as he has hit the shelf with a back issue. The good news is he should be able to return to action after spending the 10-day minimum on the injured list. The timing for his injury wasn’t great as the Cardinals eased their outfield log jam by sending youngster Jordan Walker to the minors. O’Neill has been in the doghouse this season but he offers a power/speed combination that should entice fantasy managers.
