Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Liam Hendriks, Camilo Doval, Jason Adam (2023)

Welcome back to the latest edition of the “Closer Report.” We saw another month go by of the MLB season, with some closers having big months and some closers struggling to see opportunities on teams who aren’t winning many games.

As we get closer to July, we’re nearing the trade deadline, where we usually see a number of high-profile closers get dealt. That’ll be something to keep an eye on during the month of June.

Fantasy Baseball Closer News & Notes

Exactly two weeks after he was removed from the 15-day IL, Pete Fairbanks was placed back on the injured list with left hip inflammation. This should lead to Jason Adam taking back over as the primary closer in the Rays’ bullpen.

Jerry Dipoto said on Seattle radio Thursday that Andres Munoz is expected to rejoin the Mariners bullpen on Tuesday. He struck out two batters over one inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Tacoma Wednesday.

The return of Liam Hendriks came Monday when he made his season debut against the Angels. The White Sox will likely continue to ease him back into action, but he should regain his closer role sooner rather than later.

After Ryan Helsley blew a save Sunday, Giovanny Gallegos recorded his seventh save of the season Tuesday. The Cardinals’ closer situation appears to be more of a committee approach right now between the two of them.

It was a big month of May for Camilo Doval with 11 saves and Alexis Diaz with nine saves. Meanwhile, with the struggles in Pittsburgh, David Bednar recorded his only save of the month on May 30.
