Fantasy Football Trade Value Risers & Fallers: Week 7 (2023)

Fantasy Football Trade Value Risers & Fallers: Week 7 (2023)

Week 6 has come and gone, and now we are facing a true “bye-nado” in Week 7 with six teams on a bye. If you’re struggling to fill your starting lineup, perhaps it’s time to make a trade. Here are some players I’m targeting and some players I’m slightly down on to help you get the win in Week 7 and beyond.

Fantasy Football Trade Value Risers & Fallers

Trade Value Risers

Jared Goff (QB – DET)

Believe it or not, the Detroit Lions are for real. They’re 5-1, with the only loss coming against the Seahawks in overtime. They’re averaging 28 points per game, which bodes well for Goff and the offense as a whole. Oddly enough, though, it’s really just Goff who’s currently seeing the benefits. Almost all of their other weapons have missed time this year, but not Goff. He finished as QB3 in Week 5 and again in Week 6. He’s a locked-and-loaded starter for me going forward, or at least until he does something to change my mind. If you have another QB, you feel confident in, maybe you can get a king’s ransom for Goff as bye weeks are upon us and teams get desperate.

Kareem Hunt (RB – CLE)

From the couch to a fantasy RB1 in just six weeks, that’s the story of Kareem Hunt. He finished as RB12 in Week 6 with 16.1 PPR points thanks to his three catches for 24 yards and a touchdown to go along with his 12 carries for 47 yards. It’s his 12 carries that stand out to me. Hunt previously got five carries in Weeks 3 and 4, but coming out of their bye, his workload went way up. Jerome Ford got 17 carries of his own in what ended up being a wild win for the Browns, but I fully expect Hunt to take over more of the share going forward. If you can trade him away on this hype, I would seriously consider it, but holding isn’t a bad plan, either.

Rashid Shaheed (WR – NO)

Shaheed finished Week 6 as WR12 thanks to another long touchdown, his first since Week 1. He only caught two of his six targets for 85 yards, but that definitely shows me that the offense is looking to involve him more. They also got him the ball on two carries for another 18 yards, which helps the team consistently move the ball forward. While the team lost, Shaheed came out as a winner. He’s not someone I plan on starting every week, but as the options get thinner during bye weeks, he could see your flex spot. This also gives him some trade value if you can move him to another team that needs a starter for a better player on a bye.

TJ Hockenson (TE – MIN)

Even with Justin Jefferson out, the Vikings were able to get a victory against the Justin Fields-less Chicago Bears. It wasn’t pretty, but Kirk Cousins and the team got it done. The leading receiver was none other than TJ Hockenson, who caught six of his eight targets for 50 yards. He finished as TE7 on the week in PPR scoring, but what impressed me was his volume. Without Jefferson in the lineup, the Vikings will need to see if someone can step up. Giving Hockenson eight targets for the second week in a row makes me feel confident that he’s the top guy moving forward.

Trade Value Fallers

Josh Allen (QB – BUF)

Was it just me, or does Allen look a little off lately? He completed 19 passes on 30 attempts in Week 6, both season lows. He only rushed the ball twice, which was also a season-low. I get that the Cowboys’ defense is stout, but again, Allen just didn’t look right. He was drafted to be a stud QB, and he’s just not performing at the level we expected him to. It’s very possible that he turns it around, but Allen managers can’t be happy with his QB13 output in Week 6. You can likely still trade him on name alone, but some managers won’t buy him at the price you paid, so be ready to negotiate if you want out.

Dameon Pierce (RB – HOU)

While the Texans’ offense has looked much better than expected, Pierce has looked somewhat disappointing, at least for fantasy. His RB47 finish in Week 6 in PPR scoring leaves a lot to be desired. He only got 13 carries on 21 snaps. He ran for 34 yards on those 13 carries for a 2.6-yard average. He got no targets in the passing game. All of that worries me. If I can get out from Pierce for something more consistent, I’m happy to do so. I just don’t see anything changing with the team currently at 3-3 and in the hunt for the AFC South title.

Quentin Johnston (WR – LAC)

I’m sure you’ve already heard a lot about Johnston if you’re on social media at all. His goose egg in Week 6 was one of the loudest zeroes we’ve seen in fantasy. With Mike Williams being put on injured reserve (IR), a lot of people expected the rookie to take his place, but alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case. At least not yet. He’s gotten two or three targets in every game, so the team is trying to bring him along, but he just can’t seem to do anything with the opportunities he’s given. If someone out there is willing to wait it out for him to get on track, let them. Otherwise, I’m fine dropping him for someone with more upside.

George Kittle (TE – SF)

Kittle has been one of the bigger boom-bust candidates for this season. In the last three weeks, he’s scored an average of 10.2 PPR points per week. That’s great, except he scored 27.7 points in Week 5 and under two points in Weeks 4 and 6. What’s worse, his 27.7-point outing was due to him catching three touchdowns for 67 yards on four targets. The offense just doesn’t seem to focus on him at all lately. Someone this hit or miss is just not someone I’m excited about, which lowers his value in fantasy for me. He’s still a starter due to his position, but if he was a wide receiver, he’d be off my team in no time.
