NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Saturday (3/2)

Between the NHL, Premier League, NBA, and college basketball, we’re in for another fantastic Saturday in sports. I’m heading the NHL DFS route in this article, where I’ve locked in this nine-man unit over at DraftKings.

This lineup is tailored for the eight late games (starting at 7:00 p.m. ET) and fits the criteria for the classic $50,000 salary format. I’ve also listed each player’s price at FanDuel. Here’s who I believe is due for a big night on the ice!

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis

The lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Matt Duchene (DAL) | $5,100 DK, $6,700 FD

It’s pretty customary for me to feature at least one opponent of the Sharks in my lineup. Tonight I have a pair of Stars as the two Western Conference foes square off in Dallas. This feels like great value snagging Matt Duchene, who’s second on the team in scoring (23G, 33A). He centers the second line, which has been incredible this season. The Marchment-Duchene-Dellandrea line should find success against this San Jose defense that’s the worst in the league (3.66 GAA).

C2: Sean Couturier (PHI) | $4,600 DK, $5,700 FD

The Flyers host the Senators tonight, and considering Ottawa’s defense is one of the worst in the league this year, it seems like a great time to lock in a couple of Philadelphia players. I’ll go with Sean Couturier, who is fifth on the team in scoring (11G, 24A) and third in SOG (165). Chiefly, this is all about the matchup as Couturier will take on a Sens defense that’s 31st overall (3.45 GAA).

W1: Nikita Kucherov (TB) | $9,600 DK, $10,200 FD

I’m splurging on Nikita Kucherov tonight. The winger is on an absolute tear this year, leading the league in scoring (38G, 66A). His Bolts will host a Habs squad that’s 29th defensively (3.33 GAA), 30th on the penalty kill (73.91%), and 27th in 5-on-5 high-danger shots allowed (139). Kuch already has four points (2G, 2A) in two outings against Montreal this season. Look for him to stay hot tonight in Tampa.

W2: Mason Marchment (DAL) | $3,900 DK, $5,600 FD

The other Dallas forward I’ll add to my roster is Mason Marchment. The winger is having a career year, racking up 18 goals and 28 assists. That makes him fifth on the roster in scoring. Marchment also gets some power-play time with the second unit, where he has added nine points (5G, 4A). He and Duchene are basically always on the ice together, which will give us a great chance to double up against this lowly Sharks defense.

W3: Reilly Smith (PIT) | $3,700 DK, $4,100 FD

With injuries to Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust, someone has to step up and play alongside the great Sidney Crosby. Reilly Smith is getting that opportunity, and his price makes him a great depth option tonight. Smith has just 25 points (10G, 15A) this year, but as I mentioned, it’s all about playing next to Crosby. The duo will take on a Calgary defense tonight that’s 14th overall, surrendering 2.88 goals per game. Let’s take a flier on Smith to add a point or two tonight.

D1: Shea Theodore (VGK) | $6,100 DK, $6,900 FD

I have a trio of Golden Knights in my lineup tonight as they look to rebound from a 5-4 loss in Boston on Thursday. Shea Theodore added an assist in the defeat, and that’s his ninth point (9A) since returning from injury on February 20th (five games played). The veteran d-man is up to 27 points (4G, 23A) this year, which trails only Alex Pietrangelo (4G, 25A) among Vegas’ defensive core. However, Theodore has played 30 fewer games than his teammate. Look for Theodore to stay hot against Buffalo.

D2: Travis Sanheim (PHI) | $4,700 DK, $5,400 FD

I mentioned above that Ottawa brings in the 31st-ranked defense, conceding 3.45 goals per game. So, I think this is a great value opportunity to lock in Philadelphia’s top defenseman, Travis Sanheim. The 27-year-old is fourth on the team in scoring (8G, 28A) and he’s logging a team-leading 23:43 of ice time each night. This guy’s a horse and I expect him to make it onto the scoresheet against this abysmal Senators defense.

G: Adin Hill (VGK) | $7,900 DK, $8,200 FD

I’m rolling with Adin Hill tonight in net. The 27-year-old is putting together another fantastic season, coming in at 15-6-2 with a 2.38 GAA (6th) and .923 SV% (3rd). While he just gave up five goals in Boston on Thursday, Hill should settle in nicely against a Sabres team that’s 25th in scoring (2.9 GPG) and 27th on the power play (16.09%). Buffalo has scored three goals or fewer in its last eight games, where they’re averaging only 2.4 goals per contest over the sample size.

UTIL: Chandler Stephenson (VGK) | $4,400 DK, $5,000 FD

I’ll round out my lineup with Chandler Stephenson, who went for a goal and an assist in Thursday’s loss to Boston. He averaged a point per game in February, racking up five goals and five apples. The centerman comes into tonight’s action with 36 points (13G, 23A) on the year, which is fifth on the team. Stephenson will face a Buffalo side that’s a pedestrian 13th overall, conceding 2.87 goals per game.
