NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer

NBA DFS Core Plays

Tyrese Maxey (PG – PHI)

  • DraftKings: $9,900
  • FanDuel: $10,000

Tyrese Maxey is a strong play despite a heavy price tag. He has 46.4 fantasy points per game, which is better than any other fully healthy guard available on the board. He is facing a Dallas defense ranked 11th in opponent rank, but one that will not have Anthony Davis (abdominal strain) available.

Maxey should be able to roll up some huge points against a Mavs defense that has allowed 136+ points in two of their past three outings.

Karl-Anthony Towns (C – NYK)

  • DraftKings: $9,400
  • FanDuel: $9,700

Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off a 22-point effort with nine rebounds last time out against the Houston Rockets. He also had two assists, a blocked shot and a steal with one three-pointer in 39 minutes before fouling out.

Towns hasn’t had a double-double in two games in February, but he has double-doubles in 13 of the past 16 outings. The last time he faced the Raptors he posted 27 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots with a 3-for-3 night from behind the three-point line.

Jayson Tatum (SF, PF – BOS)

  • DraftKings: $9,800
  • FanDuel: $10,100

Jayson Tatum is a strong play among the high-priced forwards. He has a pair of double-doubles in his past two outings, including 35 points with 11 assists, seven rebounds, a blocked shot, a steal and a 5-0f-8 shooting night from downtown against the Philadelphia 76ers.

While Tatum and the Celtics are meeting the Cavaliers in a marquee matchup, Tatum is still worth the price. He is averaging 33 points per game with 10 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game with five three-pointers made per game in two meetings with Cleveland this season. He dropped 33 points with eight boards and four triples in Cleveland on December 1st in their most recent meeting.

NBA DFS Cash Game Targets

Tyrese Haliburton (PG – IND)

  • DraftKings: $8,500
  • FanDuel: $8,900

Tyrese Haliburton has struggled with his shot in the past two games in February, hitting just 11-of-27 (40.7%) from the field, while averaging 17.5 points, 7.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 blocks and three three-pointers made per game.

While that doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence, Haliburton is still dropping a healthy 40.6 fantasy points per game this season and the Trail Blazers are 21st in opponent rank. Look for Haliburton to come up big on Tuesday night, even though Portland has been playing a little better lately.

Tyler Herro (PG – MIA)

  • DraftKings: $8,400
  • FanDuel: $8,200

If you’re not sold on Haliburton, or you’d like to use Tyler Herro in your utility spot, he is a strong play. I mean, he fixed Jack Harlow’s jumper, right? The former Kentucky Wildcats standout is coming off a less-than-stellar game last time out in San Antonio, going for just 11 points on 4-of-15 shooting, including an 0-for-7 night from behind the perimeter.

While some DFS players don’t like to start a guy coming off an ugly game, it’s not a bad idea to go with a sharpshooter like Herro. He won’t stay cold for long, especially against a leaky defense like the Bulls. Before the goose egg from downtown against the Spurs, Herro had at least three triples in his previous four games and two or more three-pointers in his 12 prior outings.

Pascal Siakam (PF – IND)

  • DraftKings: $8,000
  • FanDuel: $8,100

Pascal Siakam is facing a Trail Blazers defense which is not only very giving, but one which is also coming off a game on Monday night. Portland has allowed 108+ points in four of the past five games. The Trail Blazers have allowed 106.6 points per game in their past eight games when playing on no rest.

Siakam has averaged 38.1 fantasy points per game. The Blazers rank 24th in opponent rank. Siakam has scored at least 20 points in each of his past four outings while grabbing six or more rebounds in each game. He also has four or more assists in the previous three outings.

NBA DFS GPP Targets

Bam Adebayo (PF, C – MIA)

  • DraftKings: $7,900
  • FanDuel: $8,100

The big has a favorable matchup against the Bulls, as previously mentioned above with Herro. If you’re building a DFS stack, you’ll want to focus on Miami players.

Bam Adebayo is coming off a banger, going for 30 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and three blocked shots with two steals on 13-of-21 shooting in 38 minutes against the Spurs. He also hit two triples and has made four three-pointers in the past two outings.

Daniel Gafford (C – DAL)

  • DraftKings: $7,200
  • FanDuel: $7,800

Daniel Gafford (ankle) missed the most recent game against the Cavaliers due to a sore left ankle, but he is not on the injury report heading into this one. With Anthony Davis not yet ready to make his team debut, Gafford should have all kinds of minutes in the frontcourt.

Gafford has back-to-back double-doubles in his most recent games, averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds per game. He also has 17 blocked shots in the past four outings.

Ivica Zubac (C – LAC)

  • DraftKings: $7,400
  • FanDuel: $7,600

Ivica Zubac and the Clippers will face the Lakers at Intuit Dome and they no longer have to worry about facing Anthony Davis, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks over the weekend. The Lakers should be a little short-handed in the frontcourt, which is good news for the likes of Zubac and other Clippers bigs.

PrizePicks $5 for $50

NBA DFS Value Plays

Klay Thompson (SG – DAL)

  • DraftKings: $5,300
  • FanDuel: $5,200

Klay Thompson had a disastrous game last time out against the Cavaliers, hitting just 1-of-10 from the field and managing just two points with five boards and three assists. He should fare much better against the 76ers, who sport a 22nd overall opponent rank.

Jerami Grant (PF, SF – POR)

  • DraftKings: $5,700
  • FanDuel: $5,400

Jerami Grant is a value play against the Pacers in a potential shootout. In a back-to-back with the Suns, Grant was able to cobble together 17 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 three-pointers made per game. The Pacers are 26th in opponent rank, so look for Grant to keep up the good work filling up the stat sheet at a low price.

Max Christie (SG – DAL)

  • DraftKings: $4,800
  • FanDuel: $4,500

Max Christie is expected to make his team debut, as he was included in that huge Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade with the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz over the weekend. The 76ers are 22nd in opponent rank, so Christie could hit the ground running with his new mates.
