The New Orleans Saints and tight end Juwan Johnson have agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract extension with $21.25MM guaranteed, solidifying his role in new HC Kellen Moore’s offense.
Johnson had a mini-breakout in 2024, catching 50 of his 66 targets for 548 yards and three touchdowns while playing in all 17 games. For his career, Johnson has caught 146 of his 222 targets for 1,622 yards and 18 touchdowns. He’ll now enter the 2025 season as the clear leader on the New Orleans depth chart at TE, pending the rest of free agency and the NFL Draft. Behind Johnson are plenty of question marks in Taysom Hill, Foster Moreau, and Dallin Holker.

Juwan Johnson Re-Signs With Saints: Fantasy Football Impact
Johnson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020, signing with the Saints. Over the past four seasons, he has developed into a downfield target and reliable receiver in red-zone situations. In the 2024 season, Johnson recorded 50 receptions for 548 yards and three touchdowns, marking his most productive year to date with career-highs aside from his 2022 campaign (7 TDs).
His PFF receiving grade was a career-high in 2024 (16th among TEs) to go with the 7th-most receptions of 20-plus yards.
Johnson tied a bow last season as the TE17 overall and TE23 in points per game.
The athletic tight end had a great opportunity to seize a high target share in a Saints offense devoid of WR talent, but alas he was unable to overcome the team’s QB issues to become a reliable fantasy producer.
That being said, Johnson has been a top-17 fantasy tight end twice in the last three seasons, and he is the first pass-catcher the Saints have signed since they hired Kellen Moore as head coach.
Moore has helped produce some decent fantasy TE production over the years – Dallas Goedert, Dalton Schultz – so there’s still hope for the 29-year-old WR/TE hybrid to find production entering his sixth season in the NFL with Derek Carr as his QB for the third straight season.
