2025 NFL Free Agency Signings & Fantasy Football Outlook
Elijah Mitchell Signs One-Year Deal With Chiefs
Former San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell is signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy Impact: While Isiah Pacheco dealt with injury in 2024 and struggled to return to form, the next option in K.C. was bringing in Kareem Hunt. Looking ahead to 2025, the Chiefs are building in new insurance plans, bringing in a back who has proven to be an efficient runner when given the chance. However, Mitchell comes with his own injury history, including a season-ending injury in 2024 (hamstring), an MCL sprain in 2022, and multiple others. The deal is worth $3.5 million, per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
Zach Ertz Re-Ups With Commanders
The Commanders are re-signing TE Zach Ertz to a one-year, $6.25 million deal that could be worth up to $9 million with incentives.
Ertz is 34 years old but played all 17 games last season – his first full season since 2021. Ertz had 66 catches for 654 yards and seven touchdowns last year, finishing TE7 in PPR fantasy scoring. He was torrid down the stretch, with 47 receptions for 428 yards and seven touchdowns over his final 10 games, including Washington’s three playoff games.
Fantasy Impact: With QB Jayden Daniels looking like a potential superstar, and with the chemistry Daniels and Ertz showed late in the season, Ertz profiles as a midrange to low-end TE1 for fantasy in 2025. The Commanders recently acquired WR Deebo Samuel in a trade with the 49ers, but Samuel hasn’t been a prolific target earner in recent years, and his presence shouldn’t put a significant dent in Ertz’s fantasy value.
Mike Gesicki Re-Signs With Bengals
Mike Gesicki has agreed to a new three-year deal with the Bengals worth $25.5 million, including $12 million in the first year of the contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Impact: Gesicki is coming off his best season since 2021. He finished the 2024 season with 65 catches for 665 yards and two touchdowns last year, making him the TE13 in fantasy scoring. But Gesicki averaged only 4.9 targets a game last season. Even though he plays with QB Joe Burrow, one of the best passers in the game, Gesicki has limited upside due to the presence of ace WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Consider Gesicki a high-end to midrange TE2.
