Finding good starting pitchers can be a weekly struggle. I aim to solve this headache during this season by finding the best pitchers, every week, who are on most waiver wires. I will use the FantasyPros streaming pitchers tool to find league roster percentage information.

First, let’s take a look at last week’s picks:
- Landen Roupp: 5.0 Innings, 8 Strikeouts, 4 Earned Runs, 6 Hits, 3 Walks (Win)
- Jeffrey Springs: 5.0 Innings, 4 Strikeouts, 3 Earned Runs, 3 Hits, 3 Walks (Win)
- Tyler Mahle: 6.0 Innings, 9 Strikeouts, 0 Earned Runs, 3 Hits, 2 Walks (Win)
- Tomoyuki Sugano: 7.0 Innings, 3 Strikeouts, 2 Earned Runs, 5 Hits, 0 Walks (Win)
- Chase Dollander: Postponed due to weather
Total: 23.0 Innings, 24 Strikeouts, 9 Earned Runs, 17 Hits, 8 Walks (4-0)
My picks for later in the week, Easton Lucas and Logan Allen, have not pitched at the time of writing.
It’s hard to be upset with these numbers. Wins across the board are something to be excited about. Hopefully, this week’s streamers can build off the success from last week.
Below are my picks for pitchers to stream during Week 5 — Monday, April 21st to Sunday, April 27th.
Fantasy Baseball Streaming Pitchers
Monday, April 21
Quinn Priester (SP – MIL) @ SF | 2% Rostered
I want to preface Monday’s streamers by acknowledging there are, as usual, fewer games for this day. As a result, the pitchers available leave room for improvement, to say the least. Out of the options, I feel best about Quinn Priester.
The 24-year-old has struggled in the Majors since 2023, but a small sample size from this season is closer to the moderate success Priester found in the Minors. The Brewer has tossed 10 innings of one-run baseball with eight strikeouts in two outings this season. Priester shined in his most recent start against the Tigers, not allowing a hit until the sixth inning. The righty is a promising option in San Francisco this week.
Alternative: Randy Vasquez (SP – SD) @ DET | 3% Rostered
Tuesday, April 22
Jose Quintana (SP – MIL) @ SF | 8% Rostered
The reliable veteran is looking good this season. Jose Quintana has a 0.71 ERA and 0.87 WHIP across two starts this season against the Diamondbacks and Tigers. Is the southpaw the ace he was back in the early 2010s? No. But is the 36-year-old a trusty option in San Francisco for Tuesday? His proven track record and hot start say so.
Alternative: Edward Cabrera (SP – MIA) vs. CIN | 2% Rostered
Wednesday, April 23
Tomoyuki Sugano (SP – BAL) @ WSH | 5% Rostered
Speaking of reliable veterans, Tomoyuki Sugano is adjusting more to the Major Leagues with every start. The Japanese baseball star has only eight strikeouts in 21 innings, not the best for fantasy.
Regardless, Sugano is great for ratios with a 3.43 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Sugano’s lack of strikeouts limits his upside, but soft contact skills raise his floor. Stream the Orioles starter against the cold Nationals if you are seeking a good, but not eye-popping starter.
Alternative: David Festa (SP – MIN) vs. CWS | 2% Rostered
Thursday, April 24
Landen Roupp (SP – SF) vs. MIL | 5% Rostered
Landen Roupp allowed four runs in his most recent start against the Phillies. The bright side is that he struck out eight batters in only five innings. The 26-year-old has a whopping 20 strikeouts in 15 innings and should continue the strikeouts as he gains a better feel for pitching in the majors.
Roupp is a great streaming option because his excessive strikeouts make even mediocre starts look good.
Alternative: Shane Smith (SP – CWS) @ MIN | 9% Rostered
Friday, April 25
Jake Irvin (SP – WSH) @ NYM | 5% Rostered
Jake Irvin recently dominated the Pirates in seven shutout innings. His earlier starts against the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Phillies were much less glamorous. Irvin’s four stars combine to create his decent 3.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 7.0 K/9.
Although the Mets have a 13-7 record this season, they place in the bottom 15 for hits, batting average, on-base percentage (OBP) and OPS. Irvin should be a solid option against the Mets.
Alternative: Matthew Liberatore (SP – STL) vs. MIL | 6% Rostered
Saturday, April 26
Jeffrey Springs (SP – ATH) vs. CWS | 17% Rostered
Jeffrey Springs pitched against the White Sox on April 15th, striking out four in five innings, but he also allowed three runs. The southpaw left much to be desired after his mediocre start against the worst team in the league.
Springs has a chance for redemption this upcoming week as he plays the White Sox again. Despite a middling performance last week, the Athletic is a great streaming option against the White Sox.
Alternative: Grant Holmes (SP – ATL) @ ARI | 8% Rostered
Sunday, April 27
Griffin Canning (SP – NYM) @ WSH | 3% Rostered
Griffin Canning has found early success with the Mets. He has a 3.43 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 21 innings this season, including 21 strikeouts. Canning should be a good pitcher to stream against the Nationals, who are in the bottom 10 for almost all hitting stats and have a team OPS of just .669.
Alternative: Jose Quintana (SP – NYM) @ STL | 8% Rostered
