Must-Have Dynasty Rookie Draft Targets
Travis Hunter (WR – JAC)
There’s an excellent case to be made that Travis Hunter is the best wide receiver in this year’s draft class. He’s a ridiculously fluid athlete with extraordinary ball skills. His route running needs refinement, but it’s scary to think about how good he could become once he develops that part of his game. The big question is Hunter’s role. He played both wide receiver and cornerback in college, and some people believe he’s better as a cornerback. The Jaguars, who traded up to select Hunter second overall in this year’s draft, say they intend to use Hunter primarily as a wide receiver in his rookie year, though Hunter has made it clear he wants to play both ways. Does double duty end up limiting Hunter’s offensive snaps? And what if the Jags eventually decide they want to make Hunter a full-time cornerback who plays, say, 30% of the offensive snaps. That sort of usage could crush his fantasy value. On talent alone, Hunter should be a first-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts, and he’ll probably go in the fourth or fifth round in redraft. But Hunter’s investors may have to live in fear of a role change.
RJ Harvey (RB – DEN)
Denver was among the most desirable landing spots for a running back this year, and R.J. Harvey won that lottery when the Broncos selected him in the second round. Harvey is small (5-9, 208) and overaged (24). But holy-moly, what a fun player to watch. Harvey has outstanding quickness and lateral agility. His jump-cuts are something to behold. Harvey also has great vision, quickly discerning where holes are and decisively dashing through them. He’s also a capable pass catcher and a high academic achiever. The production at UCF the last two years was absurd: 42 touchdowns, just under 3,000 rushing yards, and more than 500 receiving yards. Harvey has a good chance to lead the Broncos in carries this season, and running backs in Sean Payton’s offense usually catch a lot of passes. Harvey should be a first-round pick in all rookie drafts.
Cam Skattebo (RB – NYG)
After a monster season for Arizona State in which he had 293-1,711-21 rushing and 45-605-3 receiving, Cam Skattebo now heads to the Giants, where he’ll work in tandem with talented second-year RB Tyrone Tracy. Casual college football fans learned Skattebo’s name when he had 233 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in Arizona State’s overtime loss to Texas in the College Football Playoffs. Skattebo’s ultra-physical style belies his 5-11, 215-pound frame. He has a zest for contact and isn’t going to be brought down with an arm tackle. Skattebo keeps his feet pumping through contact and always seems to be falling forward at the end of runs. This is one ultra-competitive cat. The best guess here is that Skattebo and Tracy split work pretty evenly, but it seems a good bet that Skattebo will a majority of the goal-line carries. Skattebo is worth a first-round pick in 1QB rookie drafts and a late first-round or early second-round pick in superflex rookie drafts.

Jalen Royals (WR – KC)
A talented rookie receiver headed to the Chiefs? Dynasty managers should probably take interest in fourth-round pick Jalen Royals. A terrific route runner who’s lethal after the catch, Royals was wildly productive at Utah State, with 126 catches for 1,914 yards and 21 TDs over 20 games in his final two college seasons. He’s worth your attention in the second or third round of rookie drafts.
Jaydon Blue (RB – DAL)
Jaydon Blue immediately becomes an intriguing fantasy option by virtue of landing with the Cowboys, who took him in the fifth round. Dallas has Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders as the top two veterans on their RB depth chart, so Blue has a chance to earn playing time right away. The 5-9, 205-pound Blue is an explosive runner who clocked a 4.38 at the combine. But Blue’s slight build might make him a role player at the NFL level.
Elijah Arroyo (TE – SEA)
Elijah Arroyo is among the better TE prospects in a deep and talented TE class. Arroyo’s draft stock soared after a superb showing at the Senior Bowl. His hands and route-running should translate nicely to the NFL level. A second-round pick of the Seahawks, Arroyo will be given every chance to replace perennial underachiever Noah Fant as Seattle’s top tight end.
