Fantasy Baseball Players to Buy Low
What one MLB player are you trying to buy low and why? Also, who are you willing to give up for him?
Sandy Alcantara (SP – MIA)
“I’ve been seeing a lot of YouTube comments, DMs, Tweets, and Discord messages about Sandy Alcantara. He’s coming off a start in which he was chased in the second inning after allowing six earned runs, which ballooned his ERA to 7.27 through four starts. I’m chalking this up to a guy still finding his footing after missing a full year of baseball, and I’m looking to buy low on a pitcher who I think will end up with an ERA around 3.50 with 160 innings and 140 strikeouts. And for the second half of the season, you might get even better numbers and some additional wins once he’s traded to a contender. If I can swing it, I’m looking to move a player like Nick Castellanos, Paul Goldschmidt, Zach Neto, Michael Busch, or a fellow buy-low like Jake Burger.”

Jordan Westburg (2B, 3B – BAL)
“One of my favorite players in preseason was Jordan Westburg, and he has gotten off to a less-than-stellar start. Looking at his Fangraphs page, the culprit is a .185 BABIP, which is 116 points below his career average. He is currently slugging .389, but his xSLG is .516. The power is there. Know what isn’t out there? A high number of competent 2B/3B players. I’d start negotiations with someone like Matt Mervis or Nathaniel Lowe, two players who are producing now, but I don’t believe will continue.”

Christian Walker (1B – HOU)
“Often when a free agent lands in a new home, they’re slow out of the gate. Expectations and new surroundings can lead to a player simply pressing, and I think that’s what Christian Walker is doing right now. He’s hitting just .156 on the year; however, last week, there were signs of life, including one of his two homers on the season. He has a long enough history to invest in a rebound. Perhaps a streaking Wilmer Flores and a decent starter can bring back Walker in a deal.”
