Closer News & Notes

Despite not recording a save in the past week, Robert Suarez maintains the lead in the MLB with 15 saves.

Andres Munoz comes in right behind him with 14 saves. He has yet to allow his first earned run on the season, solely allowing a pair of unearned runs.

After a strong start to the season, Jeff Hoffman has now allowed at least three runs in three of his last five appearances. He has seen his ERA rise from 1.10 to 6.05 in that span. He still holds nine saves on the season, which places him in the top 10 in the league.

Ben Joyce underwent season-ending shoulder surgery earlier this week. Kenley Jansen remains the closer in the Angels’ bullpen with Robert Stephenson likely commanding a high-leverage role behind him.

Luke Jackson and Chris Martin were both banged up and missed time over the past week. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said they were both available on Friday, but neither took the mound in a 6-3 loss against the Astros. It’ll be worth monitoring to see if either/both pitch over the weekend.

Justin Martinez is scheduled to pitch in a Minor League rehab game in the Arizona Complex League on Saturday. Barring any setbacks, he could be activated next week and return to his closer role in the Diamondbacks’ bullpen.
