You should be grinding fantasy baseball two-start pitchers to give you an advantage over your competition during the season.
Each week, I will give you a breakdown of the two-start options for your fantasy leagues broken up into the following tiers:
- Must Start: Pitchers you have to start because of their talent/matchups.
- Should Start: Pitchers rostered in most formats and who should probably be in your lineup.
- Here We Go: Pitchers you are probably starting in most formats, but who come with some level of risk.
- Feeling Lucky: Pitchers available in fewer than 25% of leagues that are risky, but viable in deeper formats.
- Desperate Measures: Pitchers you shouldn’t use unless you have no choice.
Make sure you are aware that when making fantasy baseball start or sit decisions that these projected two-start pitchers are subject to change.

Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers
Must Start
- Max Fried (SP – NYY) at SEA, vs. NYM
- Tyler Mahle (SP – TEX) vs. COL, vs. HOU
- Paul Skenes (SP – PIT) at NYM, at PHI
- Spencer Schwellenbach (SP – ATL) vs. WAS, at BOS
- Cristopher Sanchez (SP – PHI) vs. STL, vs. PIT
- Michael King (SP – SD) vs. LAA, vs. SEA
- Shane Baz (SP – TB) at TOR, at MIA
Should Start
Matthew Liberatore (SP – STL) at PHI, at KC
Matthew Liberatore has been fantastic this year. He is limiting the walks and commanding his pitches better than he ever has. He has a tough start in Philly, but a good one in Kansas City to end the week. With how well he has pitched, there is no reason to sit him.
Colin Rea (SP, RP – CHC) vs. MIA, vs. CWS
Colin Rea has pitched well, even if a lot of it has been good luck. He has two amazing matchups versus two of the worst teams in baseball this week, so it’s a good time to stream him and then cut bait at the first sign of trouble.
Michael Wacha (SP – KC) at HOU, vs. STL
Michael Wacha has been pretty good this season, throwing 45.1 innings over eight starts with a 2.98 ERA. He has a decent matchup versus a beat-up Astros squad in Houston and then comes home versus a tough Cardinals team, but he has pitched well at home this season.
Merrill Kelly (SP – ARI) at SF, vs. COL
Merrill Kelly has been up and down this season, but he has two good matchups against a mediocre Giants offense and a terrible Rockies offense. There won’t be a ton of strikeouts, but with the Diamondbacks’ offense behind him, he should have an opportunity to lock up at least one win, if not two, this week.
Here We Go
Jack Leiter (SP, RP – TEX) vs. COL, vs. HOU
Jack Leiter has really good stuff, but he can struggle to control it. He has a really good matchup versus a terrible Rockies team that struggles away from Coors and a decent matchup versus a good Houston team that is missing their best player in Yordan Alvarez.
Ben Lively (SP – CLE) vs. MIL, at CIN
Ben Lively isn’t an overpowering pitcher, but he has been great with his command and control this season. He has two offenses that are mediocre, at best, on the docket, which makes him a pretty good start, especially in deeper formats.
David Peterson (SP – NYM) vs. PIT, at NYY
David Peterson has been great this season, but a lot of it has been really good luck. He is allowing a ton of contact, and that is scary on the back half of this two-start week against a really good Yankees offense.
Feeling Lucky
Yusei Kikuchi (SP – LAA) at SD, at LAD
Yusei Kikuchi is unpredictable and has two really good offenses on the road. You will get strikeouts, but that may be it.
Jeffrey Springs (SP – ATH) at LAD, at SF
Jeffrey Springs has struggled at home but has been better in his only road start. He has two tough matchups here, but both are away from Sacramento.
Michael Soroka (SP, RP – WSH) at ATL, at BAL
Michael Soroka returned from the injured list (IL) and pitched decently in his first start back. He has a couple of tough road matchups this week, but his stuff has looked really good, and there is some nice upside in the strikeout department here.
Jose Berrios (SP – TOR) vs. TB, vs. DET
Jose Berrios has been up and down this season. He is facing one good and one mediocre offense at home, where he has struggled this season. He should give depth and get strikeouts, but there is a risk here.
Desperate Measures
- Grant Holmes (SP, RP – ATL) vs. WSH, at BOS
- Cade Povich (SP – BAL) vs. MIN, vs WSH
- Tanner Houck (SP – BOS) at DET, vs. ATL
- Jonathan Cannon (SP – CWS) at CIN, at CHC
- Jackson Jobe (SP, RP – DET) vs. BOS, at TOR
- Simeon Woods Richardson (SP – MIN) at BAL, at MIL
- Emerson Hancock (SP – SEA) vs. NYY, at SD
- Cal Quantrill (SP – MIA) at CHC, vs. TB
- Graham Ashcraft (SP, RP – CIN) vs. CWS, vs. CLE
- Jake Irvin (SP – WSH) at ATL, at BAL
- Justin Verlander (SP – SF) vs. ARI, vs. ATH
