Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Tarik Skubal (DET) at STL
As great as Tarik Skubal was in an American League Cy Young Award-winning 2024 campaign, the lefty’s underlying data is better this year. According to FanGraphs, Skubal has the following stats in nine starts spanning 54 innings this season.
- 2.67 ERA
- 2.67 xERA
- 2.19 xFIP
- 2.24 SIERA
- 0.93 WHIP
- Four wins
- Five quality starts
- 2.8 BB%
- 33.6 K%
- 18.9 SwStr%
- 34.1 CSW%
- 119 stuff+
- 111 location+
- 129 pitching+
Skubal has a challenging matchup against the Cardinals, but he can carve up any lineup, and the betting info agrees. The Tigers are -175, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.
Dylan Cease (SD) at TOR
Since the Athletics hammered Dylan Cease for nine runs in four innings on April 8, he’s found his footing. In six subsequent starts totaling 32.1 innings, Cease has had a 3.06 ERA, 3.52 xFIP, 3.34 SIERA, 1.24 WHIP, 8.8 BB% and 29.2 K%. He also had a 17.2 SwStr%, 29.3 CSW%, 108 stuff+, 99 location+ and 107 pitching+ in those six starts.
Cease has a decent matchup tonight. The Blue Jays are tied for 21st in wRC+ (98) with a 19.5 K% versus righties and tied for 12th in wRC+ (109) with a 19.5 K% at home this season.
Gavin Williams (CLE) at MIN
Gavin Williams is a shaky pick with tons of downside. He’s also a DraftKings-specific suggestion as an SP2 in only GPPs. Still, the 25-year-old righty’s 27.3 K%, 13.3 SwStr%, 28.5 CSW% and 102 stuff+ are eye-catching numbers this season. The righty’s 4.29 ERA is underwhelming, but his 3.75 xFIP and 4.04 SIERA are more encouraging.
Williams has a middle-of-the-pack matchup against the Twins tonight. Minnesota is tied for 14th in wRC+ (103) with a 21.3 K% versus righties and tied for 15th in wRC+ (107) with a 23.3 K% at home this year. Despite Williams’ shaky profile, the Guardians are slight underdogs (-105), and the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly 7.5 runs.

Suggested Lineup Stacks
I’m not buying Patrick Corbin‘s 3.35 ERA in seven starts this year, and his 4.22 xERA, 4.43 xFIP and 4.51 SIERA support my skepticism. Additionally, he’s tallied a brutal 6.32 ERA in 99.2 innings on the road since last season. Since last season, Corbin has also been torched for a .365 wOBA by 740 right-handed batters, making New York’s righties extremely desirable stacking choices.
Kyle Hendricks is a non-rotation caliber starting pitcher, tallying a 5.18 ERA, 4.46 xERA, 5.17 xFIP and 5.14 SIERA this season. Moreover, he’s ceded a .354 wOBA to lefties and a .312 wOBA to righties since last year. Thus, either handedness of the hitter for the Athletics can have success against Hendricks in their hitter-friendly temporary home ballpark.
Core Studs
- Aaron Judge has smashed 30 homers with a .485 OBP, .459 ISO and 239 wRC+ in 295 plate appearances against lefties since 2023.
- Paul Goldschmidt has hit 14 homers with a .399 OBP, .199 ISO and 154 wRC+ in 381 plate appearances against lefties since 2023.
- Tyler Soderstrom has swatted 10 homers with 28 runs, 30 RBIs, two stolen bases, a .332 OBP, .217 ISO, .357 wOBA, .374 xwOBA and 133 wRC+ in 202 plate appearances this season.
Value Plays/Punts
- In 79 plate appearances since April 28, Max Muncy has hit three homers with seven runs, 14 RBIs, one stolen base, .367 OBP, .215 ISO and 133 wRC+.
- DJ LeMahieu is right-handed and punt-salaried exposure to Corbin. Moreover, per Baseball Savant, he has a .501 wOBA and .490 xwOBA in 63 career plate appearances against Corbin.
- In 228 plate appearances against lefties since 2023, Danny Jansen has hit 10 homers with a .346 OBP, .191 ISO and 115 wRC+.

Paul Goldschmidt: 7.5 Fantasy Points – Higher (Underdog)
It’s always a smart idea to hook positively correlated pick ’em choices together, and Goldschmidt’s fantasy scoring can be directly impacted by Judge’s results behind him in the lineup. In 46 games and 191 plate appearances this season, Goldschmidt has five homers, 30 runs, 25 RBIs, three stolen bases, a .389 OBP, .149 ISO, .381 wOBA, .367 xwOBA and 150 wRC+.
