Fantasy Football Injuries to Know for Week 1

Christian McCaffrey (RB – SF)

Christian McCaffrey (calf) was limited in practice on Thursday.

Everyone is panicking that Christian McCaffrey was added to the injury report with a calf issue on Thursday. I get it when you consider his injury history and Kyle Shanahan’s misleading information on player injuries, but don’t go doing anything rash like trading CMC just yet. This could have just been a maintenance day for a veteran.

Christian Kirk (WR – HOU)

Christian Kirk (hamstring) is out for Week 1.

Christian Kirk was surprisingly out of practice with a hamstring injury, and now he’ll be missing at least Week 1. My hunch is that he’ll be back in Week 3 or 4, which is bad news for one of my favorite late-round targets. If Kirk gets dropped in your league, I suggest making the move because he was firmly ahead of Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel in camp.

De’Von Achane (RB – MIA)

De’Von Achane (calf) limited in practice on Thursday.

While we all know that De’Von Achane is expected to play in Week 1, it’s still reassuring that he’s been able to get in limited practices. You can fire up Achane with confidence against the Colts. Expect him to get the bulk of the touches as usual, but don’t fret if you see Ollie Gordon playing Raheem Mostert‘s old role.

Tyreek Hill (WR – MIA)

Tyreek Hill (oblique/calf) limited in practice on Thursday

Tyreek Hill continues to get in limited practices as he deals with an oblique and calf injury. These aren’t considered to be serious injuries, but the Dolphins are just managing his reps to avoid any potential setbacks. Hill was one of my biggest fades in drafts, so it will be interesting to see how he looks in Week 1.

2025 Fantasy Football Draft Kit

Justin Jefferson (WR –  MIN)

Justin Jefferson (hamstring) without injury designation for Week 1.

It’s all systems go for Justin Jefferson in Week 1, where he doesn’t have an injury designation. We saw Jefferson fall in some early August drafts due to injury concerns, so hopefully you bought the dip. It’s a tough matchup on the road against the Bears, so don’t be surprised if this is more of a floor week.

Cedric Tillman (WR – CLE)

Cedric Tillman (thumb) fully practices on Thursday.

Cedric Tillman is ready to roll in Week 1 against the Bengals. This is probably one of the best times to start him all year, as a pocket passer like Joe Flacco is under center, taking on a vulnerable Cincinnati defense. Tillman looks on the WR3/4 radar in full-PPR leagues where you start more players than usual.

Jayden Reed (WR – GB)

Jayden Reed (foot) limited in practice on Thursday

Jayden Reed is going to be at less than 100 percent all year as he plays through a foot injury. It remains to be seen how that will affect his performance. I was staying away from Reed in drafts after this injury was disclosed because this feels like it’ll be a headache all year long.

Darnell Mooney (WR – ATL)

Darnell Mooney (shoulder) limited in practice on Thursday

It’s encouraging to see that Darnell Mooney has been able to practice, especially after his status for Week 1 was in doubt all summer. While we should temper expectations if the veteran is able to play, make sure that he’s not on your waiver wire. This is one of the most underrated wideouts in the NFL.
