Fantasy Football Roster Trends: Waiver Pickups, Drops & Trades

Week 6 is gone, and the injuries continue to pile up. Big names are out, though some are starting to return from early-season injuries. Constance vigilance is key, and fantasy football managers who stay fluid will come out on top.

Key Injuries

  • Puka Nacua (WR – LAR): Puka Nacua is dealing with an ankle injury. He is week-to-week and should be back after the Rams’ Week 8 bye.
  • Emeka Egbuka (WR – TB): Emeka Egbuka has a hamstring injury. He is week-to-week. With the Buccaneers on bye in Week 9, managers should plan on his absence for Weeks 7 and 8.
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR – ARI): Marvin Harrison Jr. suffered a concussion in Week 6. He is in the concussion protocol and is questionable for Week 7.
  • Garrett Wilson (WR – NYJ): Garrett Wilson is dealing with a knee injury and is expected to be out for a couple of weeks. Expect him to return in Week 10 after the Jets’ Week 9 bye.

Most Added Players

Kimani Vidal (RB – LAC)

Last week, we had Kimani Vidal as the second fiddle to Hassan Haskins, but Week 6 proved everyone wrong as Vidal was clearly the one to roster. Managers snatched him up quickly this week as the top waiver wire add of the week.

Kayshon Boutte (WR – NE)

Kayshon Boutte exploded in Week 6, turning five catches into 93 yards and two touchdowns. As Drake Maye emerges, look for Boutee and all the pass-catchers in the offense to be elevated.

Eddy Pineiro (K – SF)

While normally we don’t discuss kickers, Eddy Pineiro won many managers their week with his stellar Week 6 performance. As the 49ers’ offense has continued to thrive, even with the numerous injuries, Pineiro’s leg may well be the one to kick teams into the playoff hunt.

Harold Fannin Jr. (TE – CLE)

Harold Fannin Jr. has been here before as the Browns struggle to make up their mind on who the pass-catching weapons are. However, with David Njoku going down with a knee injury, the path is open for Fannin to regain a sizeable role and high target share.

Most Dropped Players

Hassan Haskins (RB – LAC)

Sorry, we all got this wrong last week, as Hassan Haskins was our top add. Now, he is our top drop. Clearly taking the backseat to Vidal, Haskins does not show the upside we were hoping for.

Tyquan Thornton (WR – KC)

Tyquan Thornton was a usable fill-in given the injuries and suspension issues of the Chiefs’ pass-catchers. However, with the room back fully, Thornton will become an afterthought in the Chiefs’ passing game and can easily be dropped.

Emari Demercado (RB – ARI)

When Trey Benson went down, Emari Demercado was a hope for many, but after a well-timed “drop” that cost managers a huge touchdown, and ultimately the Cardinals a win, he has been dropped in the pecking order, getting just a single touch in Week 6.

Jake Tonges (TE – SF)

With the possible return of George Kittle and Jake Tonges failing to carve out a standalone role, the disappointment has been real. However, those other 49er stakeholders should be jumping for joy as it appears all weapons are a week or two away from return.

Most Traded Players

Saquon Barkley (RB – PHI)

The Eagles continue to polarize managers with those still clinging to last season’s success, while others are trying to sell off and find new homes for these high upside skill players. Saquon Barkley especially has many on both sides of the fence, leading him to be last week’s most traded player.

Cam Skattebo (RB – NYG)

What a boom game in Week 6 for Cam Skattebo, drawing national attention with his exciting, high-energy style of play. This has many managers wanting to invest in a piece of excitement and thus seeing a lot of movement around this upcoming star.

Derrick Henry (RB – BAL)

Bye weeks are here, and that often leads managers to sell a bit lower on a player to cover that gap in their roster. Derrick Henry is in that place, as well as with the ups/downs of the Ravens’ Offense. After the bye week, things should stabilize as Lamar Jackson returns and hopefully the Ravens’ offense returns to its past glory.

Chase Brown (RB – CIN)

Joe Flacco was the savior, right? Nope, we saw another dud performance for Chase Brown in Week 6. Fantasy managers can cling to some hope as he continued to lead the backfield in touches. While volume is king, Brown does give managers hope for at least a solid floor each week.

Final Thoughts

Phew, Week 6 is gone already, and we are nearing the halfway point of the season. Bye weeks are coming, and those in shallower leagues are left to scramble to fill lineups each week. Planning ahead and staying in front of your competition will be the key to your success over the second half of the season.
