Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups
All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN leagues.
Sam Darnold (SEA) vs. Indianapolis Colts (42.9% Rostered)
After a couple of poor performances against talented defenses, Darnold has played well lately. He struggled against his former team, the Minnesota Vikings, in an ugly Week 13 win. However, the veteran has completed 64.3% of his pass attempts for 246.5 yards, 2.5 touchdowns, and 20 fantasy points per game in the other two contests over the past three weeks. Furthermore, Darnold was impressive last week despite a slow start, totaling 249 passing yards, three touchdowns, and 22.3 fantasy points, posting his best mark in every category since Week 9.
Fantasy players should expect the former USC star to keep playing at a high level during the fantasy playoffs, especially this week against a beat-up Indianapolis defense. Unfortunately, the Colts will likely be without their top two cornerbacks, Sauce Gardner (calf) and Charvarius Ward (concussion). Furthermore, Indianapolis has surrendered 290.7 passing yards and 15.2 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks during their three-game losing streak. Last week, Trevor Lawrence had 244 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 19.4 fantasy points in the blowout win over the division rival Colts.
J.J. McCarthy (MIN) vs. Dallas Cowboys (27.9% Rostered)
McCarthy has been one of the least desirable streaming options in fantasy football this season. The former Michigan star is QB32 for the year, averaging 12.2 fantasy points per game and scoring single digits in nearly half the contests. Furthermore, McCarthy has missed time this season with two injuries, including the Week 13 matchup, with a concussion. However, he was outstanding last week against the Washington Commanders, completing 69.6% of his 23 pass attempts for 163 yards, three touchdowns, and 20.4 fantasy points despite a quiet performance from Justin Jefferson.
Thankfully, McCarthy has another fantasy-friendly matchup on Sunday night against the Cowboys. Dallas has had arguably the worst pass defense in the NFL, allowing 24.1 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Last week, Jared Goff completed 73.5% of his pass attempts for 309 yards, a touchdown, and 16.2 fantasy points despite Jahmyr Gibbs totaling three rushing touchdowns and 37 PPR fantasy points on only 19 touches. More importantly, the Cowboys have surrendered at least 16 fantasy points to every quarterback they faced except Geno Smith a few weeks ago.
Aaron Rodgers (PIT) vs. Miami Dolphins (23.3% Rostered)
Many fantasy players dropped Rodgers after he struggled in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, it was his first game back since suffering a fractured left wrist against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11. However, the future Hall of Famer bounced back last week against the Baltimore Ravens, totaling 284 passing yards, one touchdown, and 21.5 fantasy points, adding a score on the ground. More importantly, the veteran has played well in fantasy-friendly matchups. Thankfully, Rodgers has an appealing fantasy playoff schedule, starting on Monday night against Miami.
The Dolphins lucked out last week against the New York Jets. Justin Fields didn’t play because of a knee injury. Meanwhile, Tyrod Taylor left the game after six snaps because of a groin injury, leaving undrafted rookie Brady Cook under center for most of the game. While he was clearly in a no-win situation, fantasy players should expect Rodgers to have his way with the Dolphins on Monday night. Miami had surrendered 240.5 passing yards, 2.3 touchdowns, and 19.5 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over their previous four outings.
Tyler Shough (NO) vs. Carolina Panthers (5.7% Rostered)
Hopefully, fantasy players listened to me last week and already added Shough to their roster. The former Louisville star was my favorite streaming option in Week 13 and didn’t disappoint, scoring 21.3 fantasy points. Furthermore, he was a massive factor on the ground, totaling seven rushing attempts for 55 yards, two touchdowns, and 17.5 fantasy points against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. More importantly, the rookie has played well since his first career start, averaging 227 passing yards, a touchdown, and 16.4 fantasy points per game over the past four contests.
Furthermore, Shough scored at least 17.4 fantasy points in all but one of those games, including a career high last week. Meanwhile, he faces the Panthers in the first round of the playoffs. Carolina’s pass defense has been better lately, surrendering 219.7 passing yards, a touchdown, and 9.7 fantasy points per game over the past three matchups heading into their Week 14 bye. However, they struggled to contain Shough in their Week 10 loss to the Saints, allowing 282 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 19 fantasy points to the rookie.
