Monday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (3/30)
Cody Ponce has spent the previous four years pitching abroad, and he fully blossomed in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) last season. According to FanGraphs, in 29 starts spanning 180.2 innings last season in the KBO, Ponce spun a 1.89 ERA, 2.30 xFIP, 0.94 WHIP, 5.9% walk rate, 36.2% strikeout rate, 16.5 SwStr% and 35.1 CSW%.
Ponce was also outstanding in spring training. In five starts totaling 13.2 innings, Ponce had a 0.66 ERA, 3.87 xFIP, 0.80 WHIP, 8% walk rate and 24% striekout rate. He has a soft opening matchup this season against the Rockies. Colorado’s projected lineup has been punchless against righties since 2024, with eight hitters owning a 100 wRC+ or worse.
Ponce’s betting info is also ideal. The Blue Jays are -250 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.5 runs. Ponce offers gamers a ton of bang for their buck tonight.
Luis Castillo is no longer as good as he was during his peak. Still, he’s a rock-solid hurler and at his best at home.
In 17 starts spanning 100.1 innings at home last season, Castillo had a 2.60 ERA, 3.77 xFIP, 0.97 WHIP, 6.8% walk rate and 24.7% strikeout rate. Those numbers are quite good, especially on tonight’s pitching slate, which leaves much to be desired.
The Yankees have a potent projected lineup. Nevertheless, the lineup provides Castillo with strikeout potential. Seven of New York’s projected hitters have recorded a strikeout rate of 22.9% or worse versus righties since 2024, with four posting at least a 25% strikeout rate and two surpassing 30%. The Mariners are -115 favorites and the game’s total is eight runs.
Jacob Lopez was rock-solid as a starter for the Athletics last year. The lefty made 17 starts and four relief appearances for the A’s last season, recording the following numbers in his 17 starts (84 innings):
- 7 wins
- 7 quality starts
- 3.96 ERA
- 3.63 xERA
- 4.12 xFIP
- 3.84 SIERA
- 1.24 WHIP
- 9.2% walk rate
- 27.7% strikeout rate
- 11.7% SwStr%
- 28.8% CSW%
- 98 stuff+
- 102 location+
- 101 pitching+
Lopez’s strikeout rate is DFS-friendly. He should also get run support from his lineup, since the offense has a plus-matchup. Lopez isn’t a safe pick, and he’s not an ideal option on FanDuel since they offer fantasy points for quality starts, but the lefty is a nifty SP2 in GPPs on DraftKings.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Bryce Elder was a punching bag last year. He had a 5.30 ERA, 4.72 xERA, 4.04 xFIP, 4.29 SIERA and 1.39 WHIP in 28 starts for the Braves in 2025.
The righty pitcher also ceded a .307 wOBA to 335 left-handed batters and a .365 wOBA to 344 right-handed batters. Elder has coughed up a .321 wOBA to 940 lefties and a .327 wOBA to 924 righties in his career. The Athletics have an opportunity to erupt on offense.
Roki Sasaki made just 10 appearances (eight starts) in the regular season in his MLB campaign, and he was lit up for a 4.46 ERA, 5.67 xERA, 5.53 xFIP, 5.52 SIERA, 1.43 WHIP and 1.49 HR/9. Sasaki’s 17.4% strikeout rate was underwhelming, and his 13.7% walk rate was dreadful. Sasaki spun a 0.84 ERA in nine relief appearances in the playoffs, but his 5.72 xFIP suggested he didn’t right the ship.
Sasaki has since had a nightmarish spring training. In four starts, he had a 15.58 ERA, 8.49 xFIP, 2.77 WHIP, 28.8% wak rate and a 23.1% strikeout rate. Sasaki ended the spring on a sour note, walking six batters, hitting two and coughing up five earned runs while recording only six outs. The Guardians are the first team to get a crack at the struggling hurler in the regular season, making them an appealing stack.

Core Studs
- Nick Kurtz has destroyed righties in his young career. In 344 plate appearances against right-handed pitching, he’s smashed 27 homers with a .434 on-base percentage (OBP), .370 ISO, .470 wOBA and 206 wRC+.
- Jose Ramirez is coming off a big year at the dish. He tallied 103 runs, 30 homers, 85 RBI, 44 stolen bases, a .360 OBP, .219 ISO, .360 wOBA, .342 xwOBA and 133 wRC+ in 673 plate appearances.
- Brent Rooker has ripped 54 round-trippers with a .340 OBP, .237 ISO, .363 wOBA and 137 wRC+ in 1,023 plate appearances against righties since 2024.
Value Plays/Punts
- Chase DeLauter‘s bat was his calling card as a prospect, and it’s instantly translated to the Majors. DeLauter has smashed four homers with a .353 OBP, .706 ISO, .617 wOBA and 310 wRC+ in 17 plate appearances this season.
- Steven Kwan will get the first crack at Roki Sasaki. The 28-year-old outfielder has hit 20 homers with a .350 OBP, .133 ISO, .336 wOBA and 119 wRC+ in 863 plate appearances against righties since 2024.
- JJ Wetherholt has gotten off to a fast start in his first season in the Majors. He’s hit a homer with a .333 OBP, .231 ISO, .374 wOBA and 144 wRC+ through his first 15 plate appearances.

Brent Rooker is off to a sluggish start. Nevertheless, the veteran outfielder rattled off 164 hits, 92 runs and 89 RBI in 162 games and 699 plate appearances last season.
Conversely, Bryce Elder ceded 96 hits and a .301 batting average to 344 right-handed batters last season and had a bloated 5.30 ERA. Rooker should get on track and have run-production opportunities against Elder.
Shea Langeliers has come out of the blocks hot this season. In three games and 13 plate appearances, Langeliers has six hits, including three homers, and three runs, six RBI, a .500 batting average, .538 OBP, .750 ISO and 406 wRC+.
We project Langeliers to record 0.77 runs, 0.68 RBI and 1.12 hits tonight, for a total of 2.57 hits + runs + RBIs.
Ranger Suarez had a putrid spring training. He was tagged for an 11.00 ERA in three starts, totaling only nine innings. Nevertheless, the veteran lefty had a 3.20 ERA, 3.15 xERA, 3.61 xFIP, 3.73 SIERA and 1.22 WHIP in 2025.
Suarez logged 157.1 innings across 26 starts last season, exceeding 12.5 outs in 24 of them. He should clear the low bar of recording at least 13 pitching outs tonight.
