Smash Spots
Kyle Bradish (SP – BAL) @ CWS
Kyle Bradish is one of my dark horse picks to win the American League Cy Young Award this season. After a rocky debut against the Twins, look for Bradish to rack up strikeouts with a great chance for a win against the lowly White Sox.
Michael King (SP – SDP) @ PIT
The Pirates have an improved lineup, but they’re still strikeout-prone. Plus, it’s a pitcher-friendly environment. I like King to record at least seven strikeouts in a quality outing in this spot.
Shota Imanaga (SP – CHC) @ PIT
Shota Imanaga is in the same situation as Michael King. He should be able to turn in a quality outing at Pittsburgh, especially since it’s against a familiar opponent.
Risky Starts
Dylan Cease (SP – TOR) vs. LAD
Dylan Cease has looked terrific so far, but we always need to temper our expectations against the Dodgers. The good news is that the Dodgers’ lineup has been cold heading into the weekend.
Logan Webb (SP – SFG) @ BAL
Logan Webb is off to a slow start. Up next is a tough spot at a hitter-friendly environment, facing a lineup stacked with power hitters.
Ranger Suarez (SP – BOS) @ STL
Ranger Suarez is another veteran pitcher off to a slow start. While the matchup isn’t a tough one against St. Louis, I still need to see a bit more from Suarez before ranking him higher.
Two-Start Pitchers
Cam Schlittler (SP – NYY) vs. ATH, @ TBR
Cam Schlittler has been absolutely dominant so far this season, looking like he’s taking the next step to becoming a legitimate ace. Two smash spots are up next at home versus the strikeout-prone A’s and on the road in a pitcher-friendly environment in Tampa.
Sandy Alcantara (SP – MIA) vs. CIN, @ DET
Sandy Alcantara looks like he’s back to his previous form, coming off a complete game shutout over the Rockies. Two exploitable matchups are up next versus the Reds at home and on the road against the Tigers.
Nick Pivetta (SP – SDP) @ PIT, vs. COL
Nick Pivetta was able to bounce back against the Giants. That’s great news because he’s got two terrific matchups on tap on the road versus the Pirates and at home against the Rockies.
