Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (7/28)
Chris Sale is dialed in. According to FanGraphs, in his last five starts spanning 27 innings, the lefty has recorded the following stats:
- 3 wins
- 3 quality starts
- 2.33 ERA
- 2.26 xERA
- 2.83 xFIP
- 2.70 SIERA
- 1.07 WHIP
- 4.6% walk rate
- 32.1% strikeout rate
- 16.4% SwStr%
- 31.3% CSW%
- 121 stuff+
- 111 location+
- 123 pitching+
Sale’s matchup and betting info are pluses. The Mets are tied for 23rd in wRC+ (91) with a 22.8% strikeout rate versus lefties and tied for 21st in wRC+ (99) with a 21.9% strikeout rate at home in 2026.
New York is tied for 10th in wRC+ (105) with a 22.9% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days, but Juan Soto hit the injured list (IL) on July 25th. The Braves are -160 favorites, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.
Landen Roupp is quite good in his pitcher-friendly home ballpark. In eight home starts spanning 45 innings this season, Roupp has a 3.80 ERA, 3.41 xFIP, 1.11 WHIP, 9.1% walk rate and 27.4% strikeout rate. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his home starts and struck out at least five batters in all eight of his home starts.
Roupp’s matchup isn’t ideal, but his betting info is OK. The Brewers are fourth in wRC+ (110) with a 21.3% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for 12th in wRC+ (99) with a 20.9% strikeout rate on the road this year. Milwaukee is also eighth in wRC+ (109) with a 20.8% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days. The Giants are +120 underdogs, but the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly 7.5 runs.
Taj Bradley has been spinning it lately. In his previous five starts across 31 innings, Bradley has recorded the following numbers:
- 3 wins
- 3 quality starts
- 2.90 ERA
- 3.26 xERA
- 3.31 xFIP
- 3.33 SIERA
- 1.06 WHIP
- 8.9% walk rate
- 30.9% strikeout rate
- 12.2% SwStr%
- 26.7% CSW%
- 112 stuff+
- 96 location+
- 108 pitching+
Bradley has a plus-matchup that should see him keep rolling. The Royals are tied for 20th in wRC+ (96) with a 21.5% strikeout rate versus righties and 25th in wRC+ (87) with a 22.4% strikeout rate on the road this season.
Kansas City is also tied for 18th in wRC+ (97) with a 22.4% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days. The Twins are -160 favorites, but the game’s total is a somewhat eyebrow-raising nine runs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Luis Castillo hasn’t done well away from his pitcher-friendly home ballpark. In 50 innings on the road this season, he has a 4.68 ERA, 4.60 xFIP and 1.38 WHIP. The 33-year-old righty has also coughed up an eye-popping .382 wOBA to 139 left-handed batters on the road this season. The Dodgers can erupt tonight. Their left-handed batters and switch-hitters are tantalizing stacking options.
Gage Jump has been smashed in his hitter-friendly home ballpark in his first taste of the Majors. In six home starts, totaling 28.1 innings, Jump has been creamed for a 6.35 ERA, 4.07 xFIP and 1.69 WHIP. He’s allowed a .311 wOBA to 42 left-handed batters at home and a .409 wOBA to 90 right-handed batters at home.
The Athletics are also dead last in bullpen ERA (5.53). Curtis Mead is listed in the projected lineup, but he exited last night with a contusion on his wrist after he was hit by a pitch. His status is uncertain for tonight.

Buxton is a world-beater at home, too. The toolsy outfielder has amassed 45 hits (14 homers), 33 runs, 19 RBI, a .281 batting average, .350 OBP, .325 ISO, .406 wOBA and 162 wRC+ in 177 plate appearances at home this season.
Gage Jump has fallen short of 5.5 strikeouts in precisely half of his six home starts. They’re 27th and 30th, respectively, in strikeout rate against lefties this season. The Red Sox are tied for fifth in strikeout rate (20.4%) against southpaws in 2026.
