Mike Hauschild goes solid four innings against White Sox Sunday

by Steve Painter | Mon, Mar 13th 12:24am EDT

Mike Hauschild, who is contending for one of two open starting rotation spots on the Rangers, pitched four scoreless innings Sunday against the White Sox. He allowed two hits and no runs while walking one and striking out three. Hauschild's effort today and that of A.J. Griffin yesterday, have raised the bar for others contending for the two positions.

Fantasy Impact:

Hauschild is 27 and has no major league pitching experience, having spent several years in the Astros minor league system. He doesn't make that many mistakes but isn't overwhelming either. His fantasy value is minimal but he might see some starts if he gains the confidence of coach Jeff Banister. He is a Rule 5 pick as well. The others in the competition, other than Griffin, are Dillon Gee, Nick Martinez, Chi Chi Gonzalez, and Eddie Gamboa. The two spots open are due to Tyson Ross being on the shelf until at least May and the apparent minor issue that Andrew Cashner has had with his right biceps.
