Druw Jones and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a deal with a signing bonus of $8,189,400, the largest ever paid to a high school draft pick as reported by the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. (Jon Heyman on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Jones, son of World Series champion and 5-time All-Star Andrew Jones, was selected #2 overall out of Georgia’s Wesleyan High School. Jones was named Georgia’s Gatorade Player of the Year his senior year, hitting .445 with a 1.494 OPS, amassing 16 homers and 14 steals in 38 games while leading Wesleyan to a Georgia Class-A Private School State Title. Jones’ signing bonus surpasses Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr’s previous record for a high school prospect of $7.7 million in 2019. Despite being drafted second, many scouts had Jones, who was committed to Vanderbilt, rated as the #1 draft prospect in the 2022 draft class and the 18-year-old is arguably the best defensive prospect in the entire class.
