Jose Urena signs minor league deal with Mets

by Bruno Mulé | Thu, Feb 27th 9:42am EST

José Ureña agreed Thursday to a minor league contract with the Mets that includes an invitation to spring training, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Fantasy Impact:

With injuries to Frankie Montas (lat) and Sean Manaea (oblique) thinning out the Mets' rotation depth, Ureña gives the team a potential swingman option heading into the season. The veteran right-hander split time between starting and relief roles for Texas last season, posting a 3.80 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 70:39 K:BB across 109 innings. If he performs well in camp, Ureña could carve out a spot in the Mets' bullpen or serve as a depth starter.
