Javier Assad and the Chicago Cubs have avoided arbitration for the 2026 season. Assad will make $1.8 million. (Maddie Lee on X)
Fantasy Impact:
Assad has pitched parts of four seasons for the Cubs, working both as a starter and as a reliever. The righthander went 4-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight games (seven starts) for Chicago last season, but didn't make his debut until August after recovering from a strained oblique. He has a career ERA of 3.43 in 78 games (54 starts), but with Edward Cabrera coming over in a trade, Assad will likely be used primarily as a reliever to start the season.
