Max Fried has been named the Opening Day starter for the New York Yankees according to manager Aaron Boone. Fried and the Yankees open the season on March 25 in San Francisco. (Jack Curry on X)
Fantasy Impact:
Nothing surprising here as Fried was the unquestioned ace of the Yankees in his first season in the Bronx. The southpaw finished fourth in the AL Cy Young voting after going 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 32 starts. He led all of baseball with his 19 victories and also struck out a career-best 189 batters in his 195.1 innings. Fried has a career record of 92-41 in his nine big league seasons and currently ranks third all-time in career winning percentage at .692 among pitchers with at least 100 decisions. He's not as dynamic as Tarik Skubal or Paul Skenes, but Fried is as steady as they come and should be one of the top pitchers drafted in fantasy leagues heading into the 2026 campaign.
