Rowdy Tellez signs minor league deal with Braves

by David Leisering | Braves Correspondent | Fri, Mar 20th 10:08pm EDT

Rowdy Tellez has agreed to a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta only has four spring training games remaining, so it's unclear if the Braves will try to get him some Grapefruit League action or wait until the regular season. (Jon Heyman on X)

Fantasy Impact:

Tellez, a slugging first baseman, has played eight seasons in the majors and is still just 31 years old. He played 50 games with Texas last season and batted .259 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 127 plate appearances. Tellez has belted 122 career home runs, including a career-best 35 round trippers with the Brewers in 2022. Regardless of getting Grapefruit League action or waiting until the season begins, Tellez will open the year at Triple-A Gwinnett until he gets game ready. His path to playing time at first base is out with Matt Olson, who plays everyday, occupying that spot. But, there are DH at bats available in Atlanta and Tellez, who has 107 of his 122 home runs against righthanders, could have an opportunity there. It's a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Braves.
