Victor Vodnik blows first save chance of 2026 season

by David Leisering | Rockies Correspondent | Sun, Mar 29th 10:01pm EDT

Victor Vodnik blew Colorado's first save opportunity of the season on Sunday, allowing a two-run home run to Owen Caissie with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Marlins defeated the Rockies, 4-3, on Sunday. Vodnik pitched one inning and allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Fantasy Impact:

Vodnik came on with two on and two out in the bottom of the eighth and managed to get out of the inning despite hitting Connor Norby to load the bases. After Vodnik got a double play for the first two outs of the ninth, Javier Sanoja doubled and then Caissie hit a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right center to cap off the comeback. Vodnik saved 10 games for the Rockies last season and was named the closer to start the 2026 campaign despite struggling to a 14.40 ERA in the spring. Vodnik may have been on a short leash to begin with and Sunday's outing did not help. Jimmy Herget and/or Juan Mejia would likely be next in line for saves in Colorado.
