Max Meyer struggles with command Saturday

by Nicholas Rodriguez | Marlins Correspondent | Sun, Apr 5th 2:49am EDT

Max Meyer allowed two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings in Saturday’s 9-7 loss to the New York Yankees.

Fantasy Impact:

Meyer had a smooth first and second inning, facing just four batters in each, but ran into trouble in the third. A fielding error by Otto Lopez to start the inning appeared to rattle him, as he walked two batters. He escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam by striking out Ben Rice and getting Giancarlo Stanton to pop out to catcher Agustin Ramirez in foul territory. Meyer rebounded with a 1-2-3 fourth inning but gave up a two-run homer to Cody Bellinger in the fifth, which ended his outing. He struggled with fastball command in this one, though his slider and changeup were effective, helping him escape the third-inning jam. Through two starts, Meyer owns a 4.66 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 11 strikeouts across 9.2 innings. He’ll aim for a stronger showing in his next appearance on Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds.
