Kyle Freeland earns first victory of season Tuesday

by David Leisering | Rockies Correspondent | Wed, Apr 8th 9:01am EDT

Kyle Freeland posted another solid outing for the Rockies on Tuesday as he went 6.1 innings and allowed only a run on three hits in Colorado's 5-1 victory over Houston. He walked one and struck out five.

Fantasy Impact:

Freeland (1-1) evened his record with his first victory of the young season and helped Colorado to its first series win over Houston since 2021. The veteran lefthander's only blemish was a second-inning solo home run off the bat of Christian Walker, which gave the Astros a 1-0 lead. Freeland threw 81 pitches - 55 for strikes - and had his day come to a close after allowing a one-out single to Cam Smith in the top of the seventh. Freeland has a 2.30 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP with a 13:4 K:BB ratio through three starts this season. While it's tough to trust Colorado pitching, Freeland has been good in all three of his starts and the Rockies seem to be a much-improved team in 2026. He may be worth taking a flier on to see if he keeps it rolling.
