Ildemaro Vargas has 27-game hitting streak end Saturday

by David Leisering | Diamondbacks Correspondent | Sat, May 2nd 11:36pm EDT

Ildemaro Vargas went 0-for-4 on Saturday, ending his hitting streak at 27 consecutive games, as the Diamondbacks dropped a 2-0 decision to the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact:

Vargas put the ball in play in all four of his at bats, but could not come up with a hit for the first time this season. He went 0-for-3 against Shota Imanaga and had one final chance in the ninth against Ben Brown, but grounded out. His 27-game hitting streak ends as the second-longest in franchise history as Luis Gonzalez will hang on to the record with his 30-game streak back in 1999. Vargas is still hitting .388 with a 1.085 OPS this season and will look to start a new streak on Sunday. Vargas has been one of the game's best stories over the first month of the season.
