Daniel Palencia records third save of season Thursday

by David Leisering | Cubs Correspondent | Thu, May 14th 11:32pm EDT

Daniel Palencia pitched around a two-out single in the ninth, striking out two, as he recorded his third save of the year in a 2-0 Cubs' win over the Braves.

Fantasy Impact:

Palencia struck out the first two batters he faced in the ninth before Austin Riley reached base on a single. The hard-throwing righty ended the game by retiring Dominic Smith on a liner to center. Palencia, who spent roughly three weeks on the IL earlier in the year, is a perfect 3-for-3 in save situations this season and has a 2.25 ERA with a 9:2 K:BB ratio in eight innings. He is firmly entrenched as the Cubs' closer and should have plenty of save opportunities moving forward.
