Mason Montgomery strikes out side as opener Thursday

Mason Montgomery pitched a scoreless first inning as the Pirates' opener on Thursday, allowing one hit while striking out three.
Fantasy Impact:
Montgomery struck out Jordan Beck and Brenton Doyle before allowing a two-out single to Hunter Goodman. The lefty then punched out TJ Rumfield to end the top of the first. In three outings as the opener this season, Montgomery has allowed two hits in three scoreless innings while striking out six. The lefthander has been outstanding as of late, having not been scored upon in his last 12 appearances. Since giving up a run against Baltimore on April 5, Montgomery has given up six hits while posting a 16:4 K:BB ratio in his last 12 innings. Overall, he has a 2.70 ERA in 17 appearances with 26 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.
