Alan Rangel effective in first career start

by Nate Miller | Phillies Correspondent | Thu, Jul 2nd 3:50pm EDT

Alan Rangel allowed three hits and four walks while striking out four across four scoreless innings in Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Pirates.

Fantasy Impact:

Rangel did his part for the Phillies on Thursday afternoon. The same cannot be said for the Philly bullpen. After pitching behind an opener in each of his previous two outings, Rangel made his first official MLB start Thursday. He did issue four free passes over four frames, but he also navigated choppy waters to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard. The 28-year-old righty fired 90 pitches on the afternoon, and it seems he may be ready to hold down a spot at the back of the Phillies' rotation for a while. Rangel now holds a solid 3.38 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 17 strikeouts through 16 big-league innings so far this season.
