Hurston Waldrep recovers after shaky first inning

by Nate Miller | Braves Correspondent | Fri, Jul 3rd 9:46am EDT

Hurston Waldrep allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 5 1/3 innings in Thursday's 11-5 loss to the Cardinals.

Fantasy Impact:

Waldrep made his first start of the season for the Braves on Thursday, and just his second appearance overall after spending the first few months on the IL. The young righty had a rocky first inning, letting the first two Cardinals hitters to reach base before serving up a three-run homer to Jordan Walker later in the frame. However, Waldrep impressively recovered over the next four-plus innings, keeping the Cardinals' bats from adding any additional runs. Expectations remain high for Waldrep after he posted a 2.88 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 55 strikeouts across 56 1/3 innings as a rookie in 2025.
